  1. Is it possible to stop Windows 10 from changing the home directory to C:?

    Hi everyone,

    I'm trying to smoothly migrate my primary OS to Windows 10 without causing disruption to my daily PC usage and workflow. For years i've held onto Windows 7, which has been my C: drive. With hopes of upgrading, my plan was to install Windows 10 to my X: drive, use that as my primary, and then eventually uninstall Windows 7; then I could use that old C: drive for storage space, and run Windows 10 from the X: drive.

    The problem i've run into is when I try to do this, and then boot into Windows 10... it automatically changes the X: drive to C:, and C: to X: - like, the W10 drive refuses to be called anything other than C:.

    This is an issue because I have a bunch of stuff other than just Windows 7 working off of my current C: and X: drives; not just programs that could be simply reinstalled, but project files for video editing, music production, animation, 3D modeling, etc. which make use of both drives (like I have Adobe Premiere installed to C:, and I have some video projects that reference objects on X: and a few other drives). So when Windows 10 reverses these drive designations, all of these project files and autosaves and programs suddenly stop working.

    tl;dr - Can I just install Windows 10 to drive X: and have it remain drive X: when I boot into Windows 10?

  2. Is it possible to assign a "cd" command directory change to a % value?

    Is it possible to assign a "cd" command directory change to a % value?

    -> Yes, this is possible but probably not necessary. Try this batch file:

    @echo off

    cd \

    :Loop

    set /p Folder=Enter a directory location, and the folder wanted non-subfolder wiped. (No C:\, though!):

    if [%Folder%]==[] goto :eof

    if not exist "C:\%Folder%" (

    echo Folder "C:\%Folder%" does not exist!

    pause

    echo.

    goto Loop

    )

    set /p Reply=Are you sure you want to wipe the data that isn't in a subfolder? [Y/N]

    if /i not "%Reply%"=="Y" goto :eof

    robocopy "C:\%Folder%" C:\Datacut /Mir

    del /s /q "C:\%Folder%"

    rem [debugging steps]

    pause

    Is it possible to stop Windows 10 from changing the home directory to C:?

    Windows 10 Tweaks

    Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

    Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
