Windows 10: Is it possible to transfer my digital copy of Windows 10 Pro........

Is it possible to transfer my digital copy of Windows 10 Pro to my new pc. It was purchased from the Microsoft Store and I want to use it to upgrade from Microsoft Home to Microsoft Professional.

It will be an OEM license for Windows 10 Home that I currently have however it is not that one I want to transfer. I just want to know what the status of the Pro License would be if that is tied to the motherboard.

I would be upgrading to a Windows 10 Pro via Digital License via the store. Would this be an OEM license too and therefore not transferable?

Hello JBook, thanks for the clarification and I sincerely regret if you upgraded an OEM license to a Digital License (Upgrade Edition to Pro) it will still going to be a OEM Type that will be tied up to the Motherboard. Having that said its much better/safe
to have a Retail Copy if you wish to transfer the License in the Future.

 

Multiple questions about installing - transfer accounts etc.

According to you, the accounts were Windows built-in admin, a local admin and standard user. None of them needs to be moved.

The built-in admin account, as the name says, will be there when you boot the laptop first time. It is disabled by default, you just need to enable it. For two other accounts, simply create same accounts on laptop.

Attach the HDD to laptop using an external USB enclosure, copy contents of data folders to respective folders on laptop.

You mentioned that the desktop accounts were / are local accounts, not Microsoft accounts. See the options to get Pro here:

If you can still access Windows on desktop, boot it up, make it a Microsoft account and link license to that MS account. Tutorials:
