    Is it possible to trick Windows into believing a USB port is 3.1 instead of 2.0?


    Hi,I have an USB hub from Lindy which has a Ethernet connection, it would be insanely useful if I could use it but unfortunately all my USB ports are 2.0, while to use that Ethernet connection it must be connected to a USB 3.0/3.1 port to take advantage of the much higher velocity.Can't I trick Windows into believing one of the ports is a 3.1 port, even if the speed is limited, so the USB port would enable the Ethernet port?Thank you!Cheers

    USB Port Oddities


    Ok, let's see it with pictures step-by-step. First right-click on the USB device and select Update driver software:

    Then select Browse my computer for driver software (LAST option) :

    The select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer (LAST option) :

    Then select the standard driver from the list and click next:

    Click next/OK as required to complete installation. Repeat the steps for all Intel USB devices. Finally click on each USB root device and press DEL to delete it, reply YES when asked. After deleting all USB root devices restart the computer.

    You should not be getting the blank icon, unless it's related to the fact that some of the metadata servers seem to still be down, but i don't think that's the reason. You should be getting the default icon that comes with the OS
