Windows 10: Is it possible to upgrade my 4GBram on my intel celeron 4205U 1.80GHz laptop to 8GB ram .

I recently checked on my task manager and it says i have one ram slot . Is it possible to upgrade my 4GBram on my intel celeron 4205U 1.80GHz laptop to 8GB ram .Also which ram stick would be best as i am wanting something that will improve my laptops performance

1. My laptop is a Samsung NP350XBE-KDABR (see the "-KDABR" suffix), so it's almost the one you said, but it's not the same: it has different processor (Intel Celeron something and 4GB RAM). When I remove the old RAM and put the new RAM into its place, the laptop will start, but the monitor won't start.
   
2. I'm not sure if "boot up" is the right term. When my laptop is on, it keeps a blue light indicating it is running. When I use the new RAM instead of the old RAM, the blue light is on, but the screen won't show anything; the screen/monitor simply doesn't start.

The brand is Lenovo. Currently, I have 2 GB of RAM and planning to upgrade it to its maximum RAM compatibility.

This is how you sort out your question; not what you think.

You can't install any type of RAM you wish to and you are governed by the Motherboards maximum capacity for installing RAM.

In other words, you may want to install 8GBS but your Motherboard's max. RAM capacity may be 4GBs, or it may be at the max now.

Either go to your Computer/Laptop Manufacturer's website > Support/Downloads Section > look up the exact details there.

Or it may be easier for you to download the Crucial Scanner which will tell you what is the matching RAM for your Motherboard and the max. amount of RAM your Motherboard can accommodate.

And remember if you are using a 32bit operating system, installing more than 4GBs of RAM is a waste of time, as Windows can't use it.

It will use only about 3.25GBs out of the 4GBs anyway and the rest is reserved for hardware, etc

Microsoft explains that here why it only shows 3.25GB out of 4GB:

The usable memory may be less than the installed memory on Windows 7-based computers - Microsoft Support

To use 8GBs of RAM, IF you can install 8GBs of RAM on that Motherboard, you will have to install a 64bit operating system.

BUT:

Retail Windows 7 licenses can use 32bit or 64bit (but not both at same time).

OEM licenses are for the bit architecture that they are bought with.

If you want to change it, you have to buy it.
