Windows 10: Is it possible to use as Headphones & Headset at same time?

I have tried to use the Surface Headphones for use in voip program while listening to video in the background. The call is a general voice call that is always on, but I have found that when the mic is on with the surface headphones only the headset channel works. Is this as designed or is there a way to use both the Headphones channel and the headset channel while the mic is active. Both channels workwhile the mic is off which makes me think its a bug or an oversight.


Just to be clear. This is the two audio channels you get for SH1




Also just a small follow up. I find that the mic disables quite often and you have to reconnect in order for it to work again. I feel like this product wasn't designed to work with Windows..

Good surround sound headset

I know you say you're not that guy, but stepping into the $250+ range really brings a change in build quality that might have you never having to buy another set. Otherwise, getting 6 speakers with decent sound in a headset is hard, and that's what you are asking for, and I have no suggestions, but just a bump up the list. *Stick Out Tongue

 

Output and input audio won't work at the same time on headset

The set up of the microphone and speaker will depend on the audio software that you're using. Usually, it should be set up as
headphone to use the microphone and speaker at the same time. If you choose between
Headset and Microphone it means that is the only thing that you'll be using. The main reason why when you chose headset the built-in microphone on your laptop will automatically be activated.

To isolate the issue, there are a lot of ways why you're unable to use your headphone on your laptop. There's a possibility that the driver for your device needs to be updated, audio application needs to be updated as well or an issue with your hardware/headphone.
