Is it possible to view only a list of files on the desktop?

Is it possible to view only a list of files on the desktop? Without resorting to a folder. No icons, just the list of files. Or exactly like viewing a folder in list or small icon view, with the little icon in-line with the file name. I wouldn't need to see more than what is currently visible on the desktop for the file name, which seems to be about 20 characters. Ideally, I'd still be able to move the files around as you can with the icons to be able to group them.Again, no folder...unless there's a way to embed a folder into the desktop that is always open.

    :)

Pasting a file into a folder set for Views > List

Suggest: Do the same for documents library. (Right click> Properties> Customize)

windows 10 deleted my desktop files

Step 1 - I upgraded to Win 10 and lost all my files on Desktop.

Step 2 - Found the files in Network - USers- Desktop

copied all files again to desktop.

Step 3- Restarted my machine again and lost desktop files again.

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

    • Press “Windows + E”, open This PC/Computer
    • Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
    • Click on Users, select your User name
    • Go to desktop folder
Cant find my files. Why is Win 10 deleted files again and again from Desktop ?.

  4. Is it possible to view only a list of files on the desktop?

Changing desktop view to list or details not working

I cannot get my desktop files to display in a list or details view.

Ctrl+Shift+1 through 4 does work. The icons change from small to large.

But Ctrl+Shift+5 through 9 does not work. I cannot get a list view or a details view.

I'm using the numbers above the letter keys. The same thing happens if I hold 0.

How can I get details view to work on my desktop?
