    Hello,Short Intro: Last year, my computer screen was broken by my housemate, we couldn't replace the screen so in order to sort everything out - she sold the old laptop to someone and gave me that money plus some extra to replace the laptop.Now, I have gotten an email from this supposed buyer saying he is locked out of the laptop and is looking for the bitlocker key for the laptop. I can access this key through my microsoft account but is this key associated with my microsoft account? i.e. can he gain access to any of my personal information or files on other systems that I still have with thi

    Just to confirm, are you being asked for a Bitlocker recovery key from the lock screen after booting PC? If not, where are you exactly being asked for a Bitlocker recovery key?

    Also, are you the only person that has an account on your device? Have you already done any troubleshooting steps to try to resolve the issue? If yes, what are these troubleshooting steps?

    For further clarity on the issue and to guide you accordingly, respond to the questions listed below:



    1. Since when are you facing this issue?
    2. Are you aware of any changes being made to the PC?
    3. Which version of Windows is installed on the PC?
    4. What is the make and model of the PC?


    This issue can be caused if a BIOS/firmware update has been pushed to your PC either through Windows Updates or any other OEM media update.



    If you have set up the Bitlocker on your PC, I suggest you to look for the recovery key on your Microsoft account. Also, you can refer the article
