    Hey!

I own a HP 15q Laptop with 1TB HDD and 4GB DDR4 RAM and it runs on Windows 10 Home. My laptop was slow since the day I purchased it and after compromising with lots of graphical ice candies and doing lots of troubleshooting, I somehow managed to get a better speed after startup. However, it still takes more than 2 and a half minutes to boot properly (and almost same to shut down).

Whenever I call their technical support and ask if my laptop is defective and tips to fix it, all they say is I should upgrade my laptop's RAM to 8GB. And when I press them that if Windows 10 doesn't work with 4GB RAM then why do they sell it? So the answer I get is that 4GB used to be enough before but after some R3 Update from Windows 10, there are lots of complaints from others about slow performance. However, they don't give any answer to why my laptop was still slow without any updates.

So, can somebody please tell me if this is true? And if not, what's the best thing that I can do to get it fixed?

Windows shows 8GB RAM installed but 4GB RAM is usable

    Hi There,

I've just upgraded my pc from 4GB RAM to 8GB RAM. Windows seems to have detected this upgrade but why does it show as only 4GB RAM available. The following is what I have tried so far with no luck:

    • I have tried the msconfig method on ensuring maximum memory is not checked.
    • physically removed the new RAM and reinstalled it
Any thoughts/suggestions on how i can resolve this matter?

    Thanks

  3. Windows 10 using 4GB reserved RAM

I checked and nothing was checked off. this was a step I tried several times. and still same results. I am baffled to be honest. I would think if the RAM slot was non functional or damaged in some way, windows would not read the fact there are 8GB installed,
nor would other apps show the RAM stats, maybe I'm wrong? it seems strange though the BIOS only reads 4GB physical (which windows indicates yet indicates also the other 4GB are "hardware reserved" Ive removed all the hardware other than the 2 extra SATA drives
I have installed on system, and nothing changed. Could it be somehow RAM is being allocated to these 2 Drives? I would of thought removing my Video card and just running the onboard would of shown results 100% different than I got, which was it added 500MB
to the existing 4GB .. I'm really dumbfounded here.

Only 4GB RAM usable out of 16? -- using Windows 10 64 bit

So I bought this computer used and just noticed that there is only 4GB of RAM available while the other 12GB is "hardware reserved". I've searched around and tried a few things but nothing is working so far. Here's what I've come up with so far:

    • I've updated the BIOS for motherboard, which is an MSI 970 gaming motherboard.
    • Despite what others have suggested, it is not possible to remap the memory for this BIOS.
    • I've tried changing BIOS settings, as well as changing the "maximum memory" setting through msconfig -> boot -> advanced options.

My .txt file from running CPU-Z (MSI Version) should be attached.

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
