Big Update = Disaster ( update, enable and using dead dedicated GPU )

    Hi Derek,

There are many possible reasons that might've caused this issue. The most probable cause here is your dead GPU. We'd like to know more about your issue. Kindly answer these following questions:

    • What made you think that your GPU is dead?
    • Have you considered taking your Laptop to a technician for the removal of it's GPU?

We'll be looking forward for your reply.

    Regards.

Thank you for your quick reply

I was playing Game normally before anniversary update. After update, I experienced some lag, pixelated graphic, game freeze, and force close. I even can't playing movie or music video smoothly. Disable Nvidia GPU via Device Manager. Everything back to normal.
Using intel hd4000, I can play movie smoothly and some game with low setting without any problem.

Another big update on May 2017. after waiting for 2 hour. it start with black screen and never ending circle loading. I can move my mouse pointer. but nothing else show up. I'm leaving it alone for another 3 hour. Nothing Change. Then I connected my Laptop
via HDMI to external monitor. The monitor show black screen and mouse pointer, nothing else. My Laptop display show normal working windows and I can go to device manager to disable the Nvidia GPU. It working fine for now.

I'm also try to download and install previous Nvidia driver and the oldest one available. Still same problem. The only way that working is to disable Nvdia GPU via Device Manager. But when another big update come and Windows 10 push to install new driver
on Nvidia GPU, I'm afraid I will experience same problem. It will update, enable and using Nvidia GPU.

    The funny thing is I regularly update my GPU driver whenever the latest version available through official Nvidia website. I manually download and install the driver. No problem arise. And when Anniversary update it. It's dead now :{

And Yes I will lookout the best technician out there to remove my Nvidia GPU Chip.

How do I make the primary display adaptor as the dedicated GPU instead of the intel integrated on my laptop?

Thanks for reaching out! I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you.

To make the dedicated GPU the primary display adapter on your HP Pavilion 15-e033tx laptop, you can follow these steps. Note that the process involves both software settings within Windows and potentially BIOS settings, though the latter may not always be available on all laptops.

    Method 1: Using Device Manager

    1. Open Device Manager:
      • Press Windows + R, type devmgmt.msc, and press Enter.
    2. Disable Integrated Graphics:
      • Expand the Display adapters section.
      • Right-click on the Intel integrated graphics and select Disable device.
      • Confirm any warnings that appear.
    Method 2: BIOS Settings

    1. Access BIOS:
      • Restart your laptop and press the appropriate key (usually F2, F10, Delete, or Esc) to enter the BIOS setup. The exact key may vary, so refer to your laptop's manual if needed.
    2. Change Primary GPU:
      • Navigate to the Advanced or Integrated Peripherals section.
      • Look for settings related to Graphics Configuration or Primary Display.
      • Set the primary display to PEG/PCI or a similar option that prioritizes the dedicated GPU over the integrated one.
      • Save and exit the BIOS.
    Method 3: Windows Graphics Settings

    1. Open Graphics Settings:
      • Go to Settings > System > Display.
      • Scroll down and click on Graphics settings.
    2. Set Preferred GPU:
      • Under Graphics performance preference, select the application you want to configure.
      • Click Options and choose High performance to use the dedicated GPU.
    Troubleshooting

    • Check for Driver Issues:
      • Ensure that both Intel and AMD drivers are up to date. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause conflicts.
    • BIOS Limitations:
      • If your BIOS does not provide an option to change the primary GPU, you may be limited to using software settings within Windows.
    • Windows Basic Display Adapter Issue:
      • If disabling the integrated GPU in Device Manager causes Windows to default to the basic display adapter, re-enable the integrated GPU and try setting the preferred GPU for specific applications instead.
By following these steps, you should be able to set your AMD GPU as the primary display adapter, improving overall performance and allowing for better resolution settings.

If the above steps aren't working, it's probable that your laptop doesn't have a mux switch.

Please do let me know if the method I suggested works for you or if you need further assistance.
