Windows 10: Is product key the OEM WIndows 11 Home or upgraded Microsoft Store Windows 11 Pro?

I purchased a Dell Inspiron desktop in Nov 2023. It had Windows 11 Home installed. I purchased Windows 11 Professional on the Microsoft Store. When I go to settings to see the product key - Is the product key the original Windows 11 Home - or is it the Windows 11 Professional?Thank you,

Upgrade Windows 11 Pro

I am sorry , I am not so sure about your issues, but for Microsoft Surface device , it is normally preinstall with Windows 10/11 S mode , you need to first switch the S mode to Home version , then you can use the windows 10/11 Pro key to upgrade from windows 10/11 Pro version, here is the steps

Switch from windows 11 S to Home :

1. open Settings > System > Activation.
   
2. In the Switch to Windows 11 Pro section, select Go to the Store. (If you also see an "Upgrade your edition of Windows" section, be careful not to click the "Go to the Store" link that appears there.)
   
3. On the Switch out of S mode (or similar) page that appears in the Microsoft Store, select the Get button. After you see a confirmation message on the page, you'll be able to install apps from outside of the Microsoft Store.
   

Upgrade from Windows 11 Home to Pro:

1：Select Start > Settings > System > Activation.

2：Under Upgrade your edition of Windows, select Open Store

3：Select " I have a Windows 10/11 Pro Product Key", then Input the product Key

4: If you have any error warning , please reboot your PC and try it again

Switch windows 11 S to windows 11 Home is free of charge , but upgrade from windows 11 home to Pro need a product key if you have !

Upgrade directly from Microsoft store is for $99.99USD, but you can get a windows 11 Pro key from the Microsoft partner online store keyingo, it is cheaper but genuine too

 

Upgrading Windows 11 Home using Windows 8.1 Pro Product Key

If you are using preinstalled windows 11 home on your new laptop it means it was a OEM license Windows* OEM licenses cannot be transferred to another system. The Intel:registered: NUC Mini-PCs uses an OEM license, so it can't be transferred. However, the license is attached to the system you need retail windows 11 licesence, retail license is transferrablle,

Also there is a system requirement on windows 11 check if your windows 8.1 laptop is compatible to upgrade to windows 11 before buying windows 11 digital license.

Note: it is not possible to use a Windows 8.1 Pro product key to upgrade a preinstalled version of Windows 11 Home. Windows 11 has different system requirements and is a different version of Windows than Windows 8.1 Pro, and product keys are not interchangeable between different versions of Windows.

However, if you want to upgrade from Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro, you can purchase a Windows 11 Pro upgrade key from the Microsoft Store or another authorized reseller. Once you have the Windows 11 Pro upgrade key, you can go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation on your Windows 11 Home laptop and click on the "Go to Store" button to purchase and activate the upgrade.

Unable to upgrade Windows 11 Home to 11 Pro

Hello - I have a laptop with Windows 11 Home and I need to upgrade it to Windows 11 Pro to connect to a local domain. I can not use the pro upgrade from the Microsoft Store for $99 as that requires a Microsoft account and this is for a business and I don't want the upgrade being linked to any particular Microsoft account.

I purchased an OEM Windows 11 Pro license and entered the key in the "Change Product Key" link and it does not accept it.

I then reloaded the laptop by booting to the Windows 11 Pro DVD and after completion it still only shows Windows 11 Home. The process never asked for the license key during reload and seems to default to the digital license for Home. I tried entering the OEM key for Pro using the change product key at this point and it still does not accept the pro license key.

I've used OEM Pro keys many times to upgrade Windows 10 Home to Pro and never had an issue.

What is the correct process to upgrade Windows 11 Home to 11 Pro without using the Microsoft Store upgrade?
