Is Storage Spaces a good replacement for Stablebit DrivePool?

I have happily used DrivePool for folder duplication for years on my old WHS2011 server, but it only really supports Win 7, so now I have moved to a new Win 10 server and all the modern backup software uses VSS which DrivePool does not support.

Is Storage Spaces a sensible mirroring software alternative to use on the server, probably using Macrium to backup from the clients as it seems to tolerate VSS with far less errors?

I've seen various comments online about storage spaces and Microsoft info is limited and often very old.....

    - mirroring is reliable, but parity is not

    - New Win 10 releases have periodically broken Storage spaces

    - balancing between HDs is rudimentary and not automatic, needing a PowerShell script to re-balance.

    - replacement or adding to Storage spaces is unreliable

...so authoritative advice would be welcome, as would info on alternative sofware 'RAID1' products

Also I've had File History suggested but gather it is being removed, so are there any Sync products that might be a sensible alternative?

    :)

  2. How to Run Chkdsk /f on a storage space that's read-only?

I will try to get some Hard disks out of the storage space to back-up my data. I will let you know how that goes Is Storage Spaces a good replacement for Stablebit DrivePool? ;)

Assuming it will work would stablebit drivepool combined with snapraid be a viable alternative to windows Storage Spaces? (Disks are different sizes, so a RAID 5 or RAID 6 seems out of the question.

Windows 10 giving "Can't create the pool" and "check drive connections" errors when creating two-way mirror storage spaces

In the end- after messing with and testing Storage Spaces for quite some time- I have switched to Stablebit’s DrivePool and it is much, much better. I cant explain why but SS was very slow on the same hardware, compared to Drivepool. Also the lack of documentation
and weird ticks with SSpaces was a huge turnoff. Highly recommend checking out drivepool.

    Storage Spaces Parity Repair?

Hi: I'm a newbie here... using an OWC Thunderbay 6 DAS with Thunderbolt 3 for video/photo files using (Win 10 Home) Storage Spaces for the past 6 weeks without problems. Using Parity option in Storage Spaces to emulate RAID 5 protection.

Today, got Parity Error in Manage Storage Spaces, though all 6 drives show "OK". Both Hard Disk Sentinel and CrystaDiskInfo also show normal drives. No pertinent drive events in Event Viewer.

From reading other posts from folks with Storage Spaces issues, I'm inclined to "repair" this parity error if possible, and then consider migrating to DrivePool to avoid repetition or other future issues with SS. Can anyone walk me through how to do a parity repair?

If not doable, then can someone detail a step-by-step process for migrating my 24Tb currently on Storage Spaces to Drivepool? Many thanks!
