Is the GTX 1050 a good upgrade right now?

Hi all. I'm thinking I might upgrade my graphics card soon, since it's been quite a while. I currently have a GTX 670, and I'm not sure how it will handle some games I want to play soon, like The Witcher 3.

I haven't been keeping up much with graphics card news, but I think the 1080 is the latest and greatest Nvidia card, right? But I don't want to spend $500+ on it. I see a 1050 on Amazon for $150 (2GB), and the 4GB version is $200. That's a decent amount for what I think is a good card....

Which is better gtx 1050 or gtx 1050ti in 1080p gaming

Running games at 1080p is not difficult, it's the various graphics effects settings in the games setup that ramp up

the need for a more powerful gpu. Games are starting to get more VRAM intensive as well.

The 'ti' models have always been the better performers, and I would buy the 'ti' in this case just for the 4GB VRAM.

Whether the extra bit of performance is worth the money can only be decided by the user. It depends on what

games you are playing, as well your expectations in the graphics goodness department .

    - If the 'ti' model can consistently give an extra 5 fps over the base model, I would consider the money well spent.

When using high settings causes a game to drop below 30/35fps an extra 5 fps can be a big help with playability

in some games. By the look of it, from a quick review check, the 'ti' offers up an extra 10fps in a number of games,

which is a very good boost.

    - You can compare specs directly on the site below, but it would be more real world informative to check game benchmarks on the reviews. I usually check about five reviews.

The good review sites all benchmark a number of games, and most will compare the two models in the benchmarks.
