Windows 10: Is the license sold in the following link OEM or retail?

A licensed retail shop just sold me a pre-built computer with OEM license

Getting a Retail License? Not necessarily so.

You should have specified Retail License when you ordered it

That's the idea of an OEM System Builders License.

Businesses build a computer, install an OEM System Builders License on it and then sell it.

That's why Microsoft sold those licenses.

Private people often ask in online forums if they can do that themselves and Microsoft's slant on it varies on what you read about it for private use, as it was for businesses to build computers to sell, not single individuals.

But I have done it and still do and so do heaps of others, even for personal use

And Dell, HP, etc. come with preinstalled OEM Licenses, when you buy them, too..

 

Using OEM license key on installation from Retail USB

You can use any product key after installing from a retail USB ,

Kindly note that the OEM keys are not supposed to sell separately , OEM keys are provided my manufactures along with their devices (like Dell Hp etc) , suggest to get a retail license if it is a self built computer or a computer sold without windows pre-loaded.

 

Windows 10 Pro Retail or OEM or Volume License

This is an interesting topic. If the last three letters of your Product ID ends with
OEM, then your license was issued by manufacturer. These type of licenses cannot be transferred to another computer because it is tied up with the device itself. Otherwise, if it doesn't end with OEM, your copy of Windows is from a retail merchant.
These licenses can be transferred to another computer. Unless your device was issued by your company, or from an organization, then it could have been activated under Volume licensing.

To be sure, check the type of license you that you have by following these steps:

• Open Command Prompt (Admin).
• Type slmgr -dli and press Enter.
• It will show you a pop up box telling you what type of license you are using.
