Windows 10: ? is the Start Folder so I can edit functionality like W7?

Hi,

Using W7, I found a simple bat file that would take me right to the Start Folder allowing me to easily edit the functionality of that app & I used it a lot to edit memory sapping apps.

Is there something this efficient & useful for W10? Please advise.

How to Make W10 Search Behave like W7 Search?

I have to say, while I am enjoying W10, the search function is pretty weak, unless I just don't know how to do it correctly.

In W7 search, I could enter a term or phrase and it would search my entire computer, including emails in Outlook, and come up with a list of all the files it found in one dialog box. I could scroll thru all the files to see if what i was looking for was
there. It worked very well.

In W10, when I search Windows in the box on the Taskbar, I get a pop-up box that looks like a W7 start menu and it generally lists a few items, including Best Match, a File Folder and a couple of individual files. Once in a while I can scroll the window
up and down to see an additional file. But most of the time, the search only results in 5 or 6 hits being shown in this pop-up box.

So my question, how do I get a search similar to what W7 provided? I need search to work as I have a lot if information on my computer that I need to look for at times.

If there is no way to get search to pull up and display ALL results that match my inquiry, does anyone recommend any third party search programs that are reliable? Years ago I used Copernic Google Search. Google Search is gone. And when I went to the Copernic
web site, I couldn't tell if it was still a viable supported program. Also, I left Copernic for W7 search because it was so much better.

So any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

 

What a PROPER start menu should look like

Hi there

Was just suggesting that the logical place for a search function is surely at the TOP of a list - as W10 is still in "Design phase" I can't see anything wrong in making suggestions that could be popular. The fact that I was showing a Linux start menu was irrelevant -- just giving an example where the search is at the logical place at the TOP of a list.

Surely when an OS is still in some sort of design stage this is the time to suggest what I would imagine to be a sensible logical improvement.

I tried doing exactly what you said, but after I do the Open file location step, what happens is that a new File Explorer instance is launched which views the folder that contains the tile program. There is (generally speaking) no shortcut inside that folder--instead, that folder contains the real program.

It looks like the old Win 7 Start menu's Properties menu functionality seems to have totally disappeared, I am sad to report.
