Windows 10: Is there a fix for .dng files preview not loading in Windows 11 file explorer? They loaded...

Ever since I installed mid-October Windows updates, the file explorer stopped showing .dng files thumbnails, I can only see the icon. This bug is really messing with my workflow! Already tried reinstalling the raw file extension viewer, but to no avail.

I have a lot of .dng and .arw files. When I open my folders the thumbnails will not load automatically. The only way I see a thumbnail is if I open the file in the photos app and close it. It will not load all files, just that specific one Ive opened.

I have been trying to fix this for 2 weeks and went through every solution online. I have reset windows explorer settings, show thumbnails instead of icons, scanned for malware, deleted thumbnail cache, run multiple scans and reset the photos app.

It is very frustrating trying to view 400+ files with no thumbnail available.

It work to a certain extent. It doesnt automatically load the thumbnail, I have to open it in photos and refresh the folder for windows to build the preview. Any ideas?

I also deleted my thumbnail cache in temp files and selected photos as my default viewer.

Step by step guide:
1. Hold Win+r to open run
2. Type msconfig and hit ok or enter
3. Click Services
4. Navigate to Windows search (you can sort the list in descending alphabetical order)
5. Uncheck tickbox
6. Click apply then ok
7. Select to restart now
