Windows 10: Is there a generic driver for a mouse with >5 buttons?

I'm using H1TURBK Elecom Trackball with Windows 10 which has 8 buttons, and until I install their mouse software, Windows only sees first five. That software is bit crappy and I'd rather avoid using it - but it seems like I need a special driver, as the generic driver only supports 5 keys. Is there anything like a generic driver for multi-buttoned mice for win10? MacOS has drivers like SteerMouse which are not vendor specific and allow for fair bit of configuration. All I could find for win10 were things like X-Mouse, that would sort you out with up to 5 buttons. Anything better?

The error Driver is unavailable means that there is no available driver installed for your mouse that’s why it is not working. We suggest that you check the mouse driver from the device manager. Follow the steps below:

Mouse Button 4 Registers as Mouse Button 5

The mouse button 5 still registers as mouse button 5 even though mouse button 4 registers as mouse button 5

 

In need of a 5-Button mouse for a Lefty

I currently use the Microsoft Intellimouse Optical and recently switched to Windows 10. To my surprise, from what I found on the forums, Windows 10 doesn't support the drivers for this mouse. Being left handed my choices are limited for 5-button mice.
Does anyone have any experience/suggestions for a new mouse? I'm not looking for any specific brand; Microsoft, Logitech, etc. I would prefer usb as it will be used with a desktop. Thanks!
