Windows 10: Is there a way to block the download of Update KB5053598?

I am trying to install a windows update: 2025-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 version 2H42 for x64-based systems KB5053598, The update downloads and installs. I restart the PC. After it has restarted twice I get the error message "Something didn't go as planned. No need to worry - undoing changes. Please keep your computer on." After three further restarts the PC is back to where it was before I started. If I do nothing further, windows update will download KB5053598 again, try to install it during silent hours, fail and leave me back where I started again. The only way I can brea

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

UAC prompt for Task Manager. MMC blocked. What happened?

It's possible that Computer Management is being blocked by SmartScreen. We suggest disabling it and see if it helps. Follow the steps below:

1. Click the Start button.
2. Type smartscreen in the search bar.
3. Click Change SmartScreen settings.
4. Click the drop-down arrow in the Security row.
5. Click Change settings beneath the WindowsSmartScreen row.
6. Click Don't do anything (turn off Windows SmartScreen).
7. Click OK.

 

Don't block files downloaded from a trusted site

I have a 3rd party program that downloads updates for itself from a specific location on the Net and then runs them.

After being migrated to Windows 10, this stopped working because, apparently, the program uses WinAPI to download that marks files as "from the Internet". In XP, that didn't make a difference but in Win10, opening such a file programmatically now yields "Access denied".

• Since this is an automated process, I don't have a chance to manually remove the marks before the files are run.
  
• Running them later by hand is highly undesirable, too, because the update procedure contains additional steps after running.
  

Can I somehow mark this site (or something else like the files' publisher or something) as a "trusted source" so the files aren't blocked?

I heard there are ways to disable this mechanism altogether but I'd only do that as a last resort - if there really is no other way - because it, well, serves its purpose otherwise.
