  1. Is there a way to permanently fix permissions for slave drives?

I reformat my computer multiple times per year, and almost every time I do, I run into issues moving files around on my slave drive, "you do not have permission" or "you need administrator access" and then inevitably I have to rewrite all of the permissions on the entire drive to get it working properly again. Is there a type of permissions I can put on the drive so that this does not happen, I can just reformat or replace the system drive without breaking the permissions on the slave drive? The only thing is I don't want network computers to be able to edit the drive, but as long as I'm on the

  2. BIOS slave drive problem

    Hi there.

Having a problem at the moment that I can't sort out.

I am running Windows 10 64 bit and when I run it with one SATA HDD connected to SATA1 on my ASUS motherboard and two DVD drives my BIOS displays as follows.

Primary IDE Master (Pioneer DVD - RW DV)
Primary IDE Slave (Pioneer DVD - RW DV)
    Third IDE Master (WDC WD10EARS - 22Y5B1)
    Third IDE Slave (Not Detected)

All is well and W10 runs fine at this setup, Boot sequence is DVD, HDD, Floppy.

If I add a second formatted WDC WD10EARS on SATA2 as a back up drive for important data my BIOS then displays,
Primary IDE Master (Pioneer DVD - RW DV)
Primary IDE Slave (Pioneer DVD - RW DV)
    Third IDE Master (Not Detected)
    Third IDE Slave (Not Detected)

Now will not boot and get the 'Boot device not found insert bootable disk' etc message.

Have tried the following all of which give the same result.
2 other formatted slaves on SATA2.
    Different cables.
    Other SATA motherboard positions.

I have fitted the slave to my external USB drive caddy and Windows sees it OK.

Without the slave fitted to the motherboard all is fine, can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong?

    Thanks.

  3. Permission issue, shared drive Windows 10.

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We can understand your concern. However, we would need some more information regarding the issue.

    1. May I know the exact error message?
    2. Have you shared all hard drives or any particular folder within the particular hard drive?

Since you have mentioned that you are getting error related to permission issue, please refer to the troubleshooting steps provided by “Azee N” dated June 2nd 2010 on
Providing permission to drive and try
    providing permission to the drive.

If the issue still persists, we would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below to re-map the drive.

    1. Disconnect the drive by right click on the drive and select disconnect (if the drive is mapped).
    2. Then re-map the drive by referring to Map a network drive
and check if it resolves the issue.

    Regards,

Is there a way to permanently fix permissions for slave drives?

Asus Rampage MB not recognizing Sata HDD

I did check in the BIOS for the hard drive and it wasnt listed in there. Someone suggested that the Hard drive and the DVD cannot both be set to master, but that is how they were configured in my last PC. I usually have a cd-rom drive set to master and all others set to slave, and a hard drive set to master and all others set to slave.

It was also suggested that I manually select the number of the SATA slot the HDD is plugged into and force it to realize it's a Hard Drive. I may try that.

The way I fixed the CPU issue for now is laying the tower down on its side, allowing the CPU to sit without any reason to fall off. But I definitely want something more secure (any suggestions?)
