Windows 10: Is there a way to recover my personal files that were lost during an upgrade from windows...

Hello - I bought a windows 11 pro activation key from a reseller online and used the method where you register the new activation key and then do the upgrade and all seemed to go well but now it seems all my personal files that were stored in sub folders in the Documents folder are missing. Is there a way to restore those lost files?

Lost Personal files with Windows 7 to Windows 10 upgrade

As stated in the initial reporting of the problem, Windows.Old folder contains the standard structure of default folders, but it does not contain any personal files/data.

Also, as indicated earlier, the upgrade process did not prompt any questions or offer any options to choose to keep old personal data.

Here are few questions that I will need to better understand how to recover the lost personal files. 1) is there a technical support hotline to provide phone support with issues related to Windows 10 upgrade?

2) are there any tools that Microsoft offers, beyond
"Windows.Old" folder structure, to recover any part of the lost personal data when it was still on Windows 7 OS?

3) Is Windows 7 or 10 upgrade involve reformatting the drive? would any data recovery tool be able to read the data and lower level?

Lost a REALLY IMPORTANT folder

We'd like to know a few things to understand this better and help you recover the missing folder. Please answer these questions:

• Did you lose it after upgrading to Windows 10?
• How long has it been since you installed Windows 10 on the computer?

Windows 10 does not apply changes or remove personal files without your permission. We suggest you restore the previous version of the folder or drive that used to contain the files you are looking for. Refer to this
