Windows 10: Is there a way to replace Quick Access with Favourites in File Explorer?

Quick Access sucks majorly, it is a direct downgrade in functionality.

Several links (network links specifically) that work fine on previous systems (Win 7 or 8) stopped working on Win 10, I cannot drop files into them anymore in Quick Access.

Any way to change it back? Or restore a previous version of File Explorer?

Quick Access Crashes Explorer

Hi Bill,

Quick Access is a new feature in Windows 10 File Explorer navigation pane which helps users quickly navigate to locations which are frequently used. However, if you're having issues with Quick Access, you can try to disable and enable it. To disable Quick
Access, follow these steps:

• Type File Explorer Option in the search box.
• Click on File Explorer Options.
• Under General tab, choose This PC in the Open File Explorer to: drop down menu.
  
• Uncheck Show recently used files in Quick access and
  Show frequently use folders in Quick access.
• Click Apply an OK.
• Restart the computer and re-enable Quick access.

Let us know how it goes after performing the suggested troubleshooting steps.

 

File Explorer/Quick Access

I recently started having a problem with File Explorer and Quick Access. When I start my computer, all works fine but then gradually the files as listed in File Explorer and Quick Access start to disappear and soon there are none present. I need to
restart and again they are there but also again they start to disappear. Has anyone else had this problem and any suggestion to correct? Thanks/

There are people having a few issues with the use of the new 'live folder' Quick Access versus the old 'editable shortcuts' Favourites area in Windows Explorer.

Microsoft: Please Reinstate or give us a choice to use Favourite (Shorcuts) instead of Quick Access (LIVE folders) in File Explorer

Same deal for me, I have multiple drives, local, attached and server based... and used to rename my Favourite folders so that I knew which folder was on the NAS or which one was USB, or Local and for which client etc (I might have 10 different client folders
I want in my Favourites area all called "2015"!!) With Windows 10 the Quick Access Folders are actually LIVE folders and not Shortcuts.

I tried using Properties to rename the folder in the QuickAccess menu, but of course that changes the Actual Folder name - Disaster looming in a production environment where path based linking to original graphic files is critical.

Please Microsoft, re-instate the ability to use Favourites in the Explorer Menu and have shortcuts that can be renamed the way we used to.
Maybe you can have the Option for users to choose Quick Access or Favourites?
