  1. Is there a way to stop my windows from shifting between different monitors when my monitors...

Hello, I've recently begun using a dual-monitor setup (One 1080p monitor at 100% scaling, one 4K monitor at 150% scaling).

One issue that irks me is that every time I come back to my desk after my monitors have turned off, the 4K monitor takes slightly longer to turn back on than the 1080p one. This means that all my windows get shifted to my 1080p monitor.

Not only does this mess with my window layout (I now have to put my IDE back to my main screen, documentation back to the second) but it actually messes up the scaling of some apps even after I move them back to the 4k screen.

Is there any way to stop this, so that items on one screen will stay on that screen even after the monitor is turned off and on again?

  2. using a monitor to extend my screen

    Hi Lou,

There are several possible reasons why your LCD monitor suddenly stopped working. It could be that the graphic driver is outdated or could be the cable used is already damaged.

For us to isolate this problem, we would like to ask the following information:

    • Were there any changes made on your computer prior to the issue?
    • Have you installed any updates?

In the meantime, please try the following suggestions and see if your laptop will detect the LCD monitor:

    • Update the graphic card driver. Check out Update drivers in Windows 10 for the steps.
    • Use another cable. Try using another VGA cable to connect the LCD monitor to the laptop.
    • Connect the LCD monitor to another computer. To help us isolate the issue, try connecting the LCD monitor to a different computer.

Please let us know how it goes. We're looking forward to hearing from you.

    Regards.

  3. dual monitors stops sound

    Hi David,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

To assist you better, I suggest you to answer the below questions.

    • When will the sound disable, when playing through main monitor or the extended monitor?
    • Did you try enabling the sound from the sound drivers and check if it helps?
    • Since from when are you facing this issue?
This issue causes because the monitor automatically takes the HDMI sound as the Default input. Disable and enable the speakers and check if it helps.

I suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.

    • Right click on the volume control and then
      Properties
      ,
    • When you connect the HDMI it becomes the default output device, even though it has no speakers.
    • You need to change this back to "Speakers" and set as default.
