Is there any way of determining the size of a file on a particular date in the History Backup file without fully restoring the file?

When I restore file, very often I have backed up the bad file several times before I realize the problem and want to restore. But then I do not know how far back I have to go to get the right file. However in some situations II can tell by the size of the file. So I would like to be able to look at the size of a file in the history file when the file is a type that cannot be previewed.

    :)

File history saves only files when the size changes

    Hello,

I was trying to recover a file from the history and I discovered that the last saving was 2 months old.

It is an Access .mdb file and I finally found that the size did not change since that date even if I make a modification per day in the database!

I just compacted the database (under Access) so the size changed; File History saved the file immediatly on request.

Is there a way to force File History to take into account not only the file size but also the modification date ?

File History - Does not turn off

Thanks again for your suggestion. Most of the items mentioned were mentioned in your previous post.

As I mentioned in my original post, File History shows history entries in my Task Schedule menu History listings even though I have turned it off. Now, I did notice one other entry in the History listing. The History listing said “Maintenance Mode.” So,
I wonder if that mode reacts differently and rejects my File History Off and Task Schedule settings and lists File History listings under a different parameter. That may account for the history dates not agreeing with File History and Task Schedule dates.

File history saves only files when the size changes

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community, we appreciate your interest in Windows 10.

As you have an issues with finding modification date for the files, I suggest you to try the below and check if it helps.

I would like to inform that, by default you will be able to see the created on, accessed and modified dates when you right click on the file and select properties.

Also, I suggest you to change the settings the File History and check if it helps.

    • Press Windows key and type File History and select
      File History Settings.
    • Click on More option, See advanced settings, wait a while and click on
      Advanced settings.
    • Under Versions you will see the options:
    • Save copies of files
    • Keep saved versions
Modify them according and check if it helps.
