Windows 10: Is there any way to backup everything from windows 7 to an external HD, update windows to...

With Windows 7 no longer being supported, I would like to update to windows 10 or 11. I was hoping I could backup everything to an external hard drive, upgrade to one of the newer versions of windows, then transfer everything back from the hard drive? I’m just wondering what kind of problems I might run into and how exactly to do it. Thanks for any help.

Windows 7 Backup question

Hi, I have Windows 7 x64 HP. I've used the backup and restore feature to backup on an external drive, and I've also burned a copy of the restore software that it wished me to burn onto a CD. My question is, if ever my PC fails or something and I need to restore my files, will I need anything beyond the external drive and the backup CD? Or will I need the original OS CD as well? I upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista but I don't have my Vista disc anymore (lost it a long time ago), which basically means the Windows 7 upgrade disc shouldn't work either (to be honest, I haven't touched the disc in nearly a year so I don't really know where the W7 update disc is either :/). Thanks.

Windows 7 x64 is working very well here. No error, no BSOD, no compatibility warning. I have just updated Realtek HD Audio driver to latest release 2.37 (6.0.1.5983).I am so much pleased with this OS stability and performance.

It involves patching the wuaueng.dll file. I strongly suggest that you make a backup copy of that file before applying the patch.
