I just bought one of those usb soundcards since my laptop's headphone jack broke. It seems to be using Microsoft's drivers to work, but the audio input is quite low even after maxing the volume on the windows sound app. So I guess the question is, is there a way to increase the volume more than it is allowed by windows 10?

  2. Can't boost microphone in Windows 10

Thanks for replying Is there any way to boost microphone signal further than the sounds setting allows you? :)

I did all the steps listed, but as shown in the screenshot above there is no Microphone Boost slider to modify. And in the "Custom" tab the Microphone Boost box is check-marked so I have no idea why its not showing.

Can't boost microphone in Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I suggest you to follow the step below and check if it helps.

How to Raise the Mic Volume in Windows 10.

    • Right click on Speaker on the
      System Tray.

    • Select Recording Devices.

    • This will bring the Sounds window on your screen. In the
Recording tab of Sounds window, you will notice the microphone which is active, i.e. the one with a green tick mark. Right click on the active microphone and select its
      Properties

    • Click on Levels tab of
Microphone Properties. This tab exhibits you two sections:
      Microphone andMicrophone Boost.

    • Use the sliders to modify your volume settings. You can take the Microphone Boost slider up to +40 dB. To save the changes, don’t forget to click
Ok button. If you do the modification while the conversation goes on then you will get the immediate feedback of the output sound from the end user and so you can adjust the volume using the sliders as per requirement.

Keep us posted on this issue so that we can assist you better.

Windows sound settings update - option to boost microphone removed?

Locate and right-click on the Sound icon in the taskbar (represented by a Speaker icon).

    Click on Recording devices.

Locate and right-click on your computer’s active microphone. Depending on your setup, there may be more than one microphones present in the Recording tab of the Sound window, but your computer’s active microphone will have a green check mark next to it.

Click on Properties in the resulting context menu.

    Navigate to the Levels tab.

First and foremost, turn the slider under the Microphone section all the way up to make sure that the microphone’s volume is set to 100, no less.

If increasing the microphone’s volume to 100 isn’t enough to get the job done or if the microphone’s volume was already set to 100, you can ahead and add some Microphone Boost to the mix as well.

*The Microphone Boost feature can give a boost of up to 30.0 dB to the volume of your microphone – all you need to do in order to use this feature is select just how much of a boost you want your microphone’s volume to get using the slider under the Microphone
Boost option. When tinkering around with the Microphone Boost feature, is it best to be in communication with another person via the same microphone you are applying the Microphone Boost to so that you can ask the other person for feedback pertaining to the
mic’s volume at the same time you adjust it.

Once done, click on Apply and then on OK.

Click on Apply and then on OK in the Sound window to close that as well.

I’ve noted the boost with a *. If you can’t find the Db boost under Windows 10 then chances are it has been removed.
