Is there any way to find out if a prospective laptop supports WiFi Direct?

I understand that it's easy to find out if the wifi direct virtual adapter exists on the laptop by checking it via a command prompt. However, I am about to purchase a new laptop, and it is extremely important that it supports WiFi Direct for me.Is there any way to find out? Or is the support for Wifi direct a standard and should I not worry about it?Or is the only way to order laptops via trial by error and send it back if it doesn't support it?

    :)

  2. How to setup wifi direct settings and connect devices with windows 10 laptop and other mobile phones.

Thanks for getting back, Dee. Since only the mobile devices connected via Wi-Fi Direct following the steps above, then I suggest that you try adding your mobile device on your laptop. Follow these steps:

    1. Navigate to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
    2. Click Add Bluetooth or other device.
    3. Under Add a device, select Everything else.
    4. Once your mobile phone appears, select it.
    5. Click Done when finished.

If you have additional questions, or if the issue persists after the troubleshooting steps above, please let me know by replying to this thread. This way, I'll get notified and respond back to you as soon as I can.

    Regards.

    Hostednetwork for wifi-direct

Hi, really hoping we can find an answer to your question...

In my case, I too have enabled a hosted network using the netsh commands, but my android devices are unable to connect to it...always giving an "authentication error"...the password entered is definitely correct however. I have successfully used Connectify on the computer and connected my devices to it, BUT I am looking for a native solution because this desktop I am using is quite a dinosaur and the Connectify services and interface severely tax my system resources.

The reason I am zeroing in on Wifi Direct functions like you are is because Connectify includes an option for "Prefer Wifi Direct" for connections....enabling THAT option is the only way for my devices to use my Connectify hotspot. Again though, I would like to stop relying on Connectify and instead enable this functionality via the Command Line

Actually Kofoed, I suggest you try Connectify, it may just be the answer you are looking for, but for me, I'm hoping for guidance on controlling/enabling Wifi Direct via netsh commands and the like, in conjunction with the hosted network functionality.

    Thanks

    WiFi Direct in Windows 10

    Andre,

Thanks for your info. I have previously done as you also indicated and just assumed that I was missing a step because when in the WiFi Direct mode on my LG K20V phone I can see my laptop but when I go to Settings, Devices, Bluetooth & Other Devices, Add
a Device, Then I am presented with [Choose the kind of device you want to add]. At that point I choose option [Everything Else] but it will not detect my phone.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!
