    Just tried on win xp (on an old hdd drive), it can play both speaker and headphone at the same time. So the problem must be related to windows 10, drivers, and the realtek manager.

    The windows 10 version is 1903. The realtek hd audio manager icon shows in control panel, and the option like "seperate front panel and back panel as 2 streams" is already checked. The driver version should be already 2.81 (instead of the faulty 2.82). One strange thing is that the realtek manager is a asus-themed one, instead of the more generic look one.

    The mainboard and chipset is pretty old, asus p8p67 pro. I think I have already searched half of the internet for solution. A lot of people (probably using other boards) solved this problem after correctly installed the realtek audio manager and applied the correct setting.

    Speakers playing when headphones are plugged in


    I have an HP laptop with windows 10. When my headphones are plugged in, the speakers are still playing. When I go to sounds, the only device listed is the speakers. How can I silence the speakers when the headphones are plugged in.

    Windows 10 update version 1903 - Headphone Not Recognized

    I am having what sounds to be the same issue on 1903. This is a brand new build and I just installed Windows 10.

    I have tried the latest Realtek drivers from my motherboard manufacturer and Ben's update method above.

    No matter what is plugged in, I only have 1 playback/output device.

    • I plug my speakers into the back of my computer = audio plays and listed as Speakers (Realtek Audio)
    • I plug my headphones into my front panel = audio plays and listed as Speakers (Realtek Audio)
    • I plug my headphones into my front panel and speakers into rear panel = audio plays out of front panel and listed as Speakers (Realtek Audio)

    I used to be able to switch between front and rear when both were plugged in. I am thinking this might be a 1903 issue.
