Windows 10: Is there anyway to password protect MS files without encryption?

A little background: 3 years ago I used 7Zip Free to encrypt 15 years of data. I cannot access the data now because data is corrupt so extremely hesitate to encrypt anything.

ms. excel bug? file that protect by password become unprotected file?

i have ms. excel 2010 document that protected by password, when i send it through e-mail the file become unprotected file, in other name the pass is gone
is it the bug or i just missed something on that

 

Password protecting and/or encrypting a file

I'm a new user of Windows 10 and I have a file with lots of sensitive information that I want to protect with the extra security of encryption or password protection. In Excel I can encrypt a file but for some reason I can't seem to find a way to either
password protect a document or encrypt it. Example: I wrote out all my passwords on a sheet of paper and took a picture of it. On my cell phone I password protected it to access it and I want to do something similar on Windows 10 files. When I did a search,
it said encryption is not an option on Windows 10....true? If that's not, how can I password protect my file/picture?

• Are you logging-in using Administrator User account?
• Is this issue specific to any particular folder or persist in all the folders?

Encrypting File System (EFS) is a feature of Windows that you can use to store information on your hard disk in an encrypted format. Encryption is the strongest protection that Windows provides to help you keep your information secure. I suggest you to try
log-in through other Administrator account and perform the below given steps to encrypt the folder and check if it works:

How to encrypt a file

• Right-click (or tap and hold) a file or folder and select Properties.
• Select the Advanced... button and select the Encrypt contents to secure data check box.
• Select OK to close the Advanced Attributes window, select
  Apply, and then select OK.
