    I have an old piece of software that I need for work for programming old hardware. Sadly it will only run on Windows XP, which I can't seem to find anywhere. Hoping I can find Windows 7 and just run it in XP compatibility mode.Thank you!

    Thanks for the replies, but I have a follow-up question.

    I have a fully licensed, verified, up to date OEM copy of Windows 7 Pro that I run in a VM on the machine that it was originally licensed for. The VM is running in Virtualbox under Windows 8.1 Pro (a full, not upgrade copy) and under Ubuntu. The Windows
    7 VM has downloaded the KB35035583 update for the Get Windows 10 App but the app does not appear on the taskbar.

    Will it be permitted to upgrade this copy of Windows 7 to Windows 10? If so, why does the app not appear?

    Exactly.

    When you go to the evaluation site you can download a complete ISO of Windows 10.

    Below is a link step by step with screen shots on how to create a VM in Hyper-V using the ISO that you download from the evaluation site.

    Link says Windows 8.1 but works the same in Windows 10.

    The trial copies are fully functional so it is perfect for testing purposes.

    Hi there Eric,

    To answer your questions...

    Q1. If you are using the Windows 10 Professional license (OEM) on the same computer that the OEM license came on - this is fine.

    Q2. Yes; however, you need a Windows 7 license.

    Q3. Essentially, if you have a Windows 10 Pro OEM license and install it on the SAME computer you have no issues. If you install a Windows 7 VM, you need a license for this VM.
