  1. Is there currently a working path for software raid volumes in Windows 10?

    Hi,

I previously had a windows storage spaces drive with 9 disks that I used with my collection of spinning disks. After updating to 2004 my storage spaces got ruined due tothis bug. So I destroyed that, and then further discovered that windows storage spaces isnot functional at all due to no longer being able to create disk pools

So I figured fine, I have hardware raid controllers, I'll just go back to using those because it doesn't seem like a good idea to trust windows to do any striping. So created 2 raid 0's with 4 disks each in my bios. Windows recognizes those just fine. And then I used disk manager to mirror the 2 volumes as a software raid 1. That seemed to be working great, and after about 4 days of restoring from my backup system I have all my data back.

The problem now is that after about 24 hours of uptime, windows explorer completely locks up and requires a hard reboot of the machine when I try to access the software volume. This exact configuration with this exact same hardware worked fine a couple years ago.

    So to recap:

    * Storage space parity is broken

    * Creating storage spaces pools is broken

    * disk manager raid 1 is broken

    * I haven't tried disk manager raid 0 yet

Is there anything I'm missing? Are software raids completely unsupported now?

At this point I honestly don't want to invest the time in trying to set up a software raid 0 and restoring all my backups again just to run into one more failure. I'm probably just going to fall back to using 2 separate hardware raid 0's and running a nightly synchronization script between the two to handle immediate drive failures.

    please help :-

    :)

  2. Windows 7 RAID or Intel RAID?

Just to add to this. I used to use windows raid 0 for a number of years. The advantage was I could port the raid across motherboard and chipset changes (even AMD to Intel).

Performance wise it's software raid VS fake hw raid, I doubt the difference would be much. If you plan to stick to intel though (or ever want to dual boot Linux) probably use their raid would be my suggestion. It's possible to make a windows raid 0 volume accessible on linux but its tricky?

Does Reinstalling Windows Affect Software RAID

I assigned volume 2 as a V drive because it says that it is the system partition (the first picture of the most recent reply). The command is still unable to find the V:\boot path. I tried again with the C: and D: drive which returned the same results.

If you look back at that same photo it shows that Partition 3 is a 16MB reserved partition but is not listed under the possible volumes is that common or could it be causing the problem?

I am afraid to do a clean install as I have that RAID 5 array that was set up in windows. I do not have any access to the data on those drives for them to back up except through windows which is not booting. If the RAID array would be fine then I would have
done a clean install a while ago. I will be taking your advice in the future and not doing another software RAID. Would you recommend a hardware RAID card or that I get a NAS enclosure for all of these drives?

Keyboard Volume Keys not working while in-game

I happen to have used the Tt Challenger Pro keyboard in the past, and the volume keys worked flawlessly in every game, so it's indeed a weird problem. I would suggest the same thing sneekypeet suggested, using the keyboard software and assign this function to a hotkey, but you said that didn't work either, so yeah...
