Hi so I recently got a new bluetooth headset and I am now realising that when I connect my headset and join a discord call all my other apps sound is muted. I fixed that by disabling the headset from the "recording" and from the "playback" tabs on the "manage audio devices" on the control panel. but that makes it so my microphone does not work. Is there a way to listen to the audio from my computer, be on a call and be able to use the microphone at the same time? I can't find anything online and I just want to make sure if windows trully is this bad or if there is something else I can do, Than

    :)

Mono audio (ease of access) plus Listen to Microphone (audio control)

I wish to have my Windows 10 (20H2) machine listen to microphone (relay audio from sound input device to sound output device) and be in Mono audio mode (combine left and right input sound streams and send the combined result to both left and right output sound stream) at start-up.

The "Turn on Mono" setting does not appear to take effect until after an (any?) application using windows sound is started. The "listen to microphone" setting IS in effect at start-up (however, the audio flow is still stereo, which is not intended.)

    Here is the step-by-step:

    1. Start Windows 10, no audio-based application running
    2. Ease of Access > Audio > Turn on Mono
    3. Sound Control Panel > Recording > (double click on) Microphone > Listen > [x] Listen to this Device

    4. Reboot.

    5. At this point, the "Turn on Mono" setting does not appear to be in effect (left and right audio channels are still distinct)

    6. Start (any) windows sound application

    7. At this point, the "Turn on Mono" setting DOES appear to be in effect (left and right channels are merged at input, and the merged audio is presented to both left and right audio outputs)

    8. Stop the windows sound application

    9. At this point, the "Turn on Mono" setting DOES appear to be in effect (left and right channels are merged at input, and the merged audio is presented to both left and right audio outputs)

    Repeatable beginning at step 4.

I imagine this is not intended behavior, and I'm wondering if it's an oversight in Windows 10?

Thanks for any advice or attempts to duplicate this sequence.

Microphones work through 'Listen to this device' -- Windows not recording audio

    Hi,

I am currently having an issue with the recording devices in Windows. The connected microphones are all functional and I can hear myself through both (one internal mic and an external USB headset with mic) when I check 'Listen to this device'. However, beyond
this point, no audio is recorded. Where the green bars are displayed next to the corresponding input microphone devices show no activity unless the 'Listen to this device' checkbox is ticked whereby, the green bars begin detecting audio for the internal mic,
but disappear for the external USB headset even though I am able to hear myself.

This issue began after the Windows 10 April Update as there were no problems prior. I have tried several 'solutions' listed online including, changing various sound settings, deleting and installing the drivers again, reinstalling the operating system itself,
    etc.

Some insight into this issue would be much appreciated.

    Thank you.

Microphone audio is distorted when I listen to audio playback in Windows but fine in Realktek Audio Manager

    Hi Marc,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community and being part of Windows 10.

I understand your concern about accessing the sound on your device.

Do let us know the make and model of your device?

I would like to inform that there will be same drivers for audio from motherboard and sound card. Windows will have basic audio drivers for the operating system (Realtek).

Try few of the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

Step 1: I suggest you to run Audio troubleshooter.

    • Press Windows key from the keyboard, type
      Troubleshooting and select it.
    • Click on view all option on the upper left corner of
      Troubleshooting window.
    • Select the Audio options from the list.
    • Click Next to run the troubleshooter.

Step 2: Uninstall and Update the driver.

I suggest you to uninstall the existing driver and update it.

    • Right click on the Start button from the desktop and select
      Device Manager.
    • Expand Audio inputs and outputs, right click on
High Definition Audio Device and click on Uninstall.
    • Restart and Windows will re-install the
      IDT High Definition Audio driver
      .

Also, if you find the latest drivers you can install them manually on your device.

to: Install and Update drivers in Windows 10

Hope it helps. Reply to the post with an updated status of this issue for further assistance.
