  1. Is there no way to change the size of the monitors in the display settings?

From what I've read you monitor proportions are based solely on resolution meaning even if my monitors are the same size physically windows sees it as a different size. It seems there is now way to change this. Why is this so? Why will it not just let me make the monitors the same size regardless of resolution? It's just annoying because the mouse changes positions when moving over to the other monitor.

    monitor display size

    Hi Kathy,

This issue with monitor display can be caused by screen resolution problems.

As an initial troubleshooting step, try changing the screen resolution by following the steps below:

    • Right-click on the desktop screen.
    • Select Display settings.
    • Click Display.
    • Under Resolution, click on the drop-down menu and change the screen resolution.

Note: You can select the most recommended resolution (1920 x 1080) if applicable and see if the issue will persist.

Let us know if you have any other concerns.

  3. How do I adjust the size of an external monitor in Display Settings?

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

To adjust the size of your external monitor in Display Settings, follow these steps:

    1. Open the Display Settings on your computer. You can usually access this by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting "Display settings" or by searching for "Display settings" in the Start menu.
    2. In the Display Settings window, you should see a diagram representing your monitors. Identify the external monitor that you want to adjust.
    3. Click on the external monitor in the diagram to select it. You may need to click on the "Identify" button to display numbers on each monitor, helping you identify them correctly.
    4. Once the external monitor is selected, scroll down to the "Scale and Layout" section. Here, you can adjust the size of the external monitor.
    5. Look for the "Resolution" dropdown menu. This menu allows you to change the resolution of the selected monitor. Select a lower resolution to make the monitor appear larger on the screen. You may need to try different resolutions until you find the one that aligns correctly with your laptop screen.
    6. After selecting the desired resolution, click on the "Apply" button to save the changes. The screen may flicker for a moment as the settings are applied.
    7. Check if the alignment has improved. If not, repeat the steps and try a different resolution until you achieve the desired alignment.
Keep in mind that adjusting the resolution may affect the image quality on the external monitor, so it's important to find a balance between size and clarity that suits your needs.

If you're still having trouble aligning the screens, you may need to adjust the position of the monitors in the display settings. You can drag and drop the monitor icons in the diagram to rearrange their positions relative to each other. This can help align the screens more accurately.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.

    Best regards
