  1. Is there way to "Recording" devices that are not plugged in?

EDIT: Meant to say in my title "Is there a way to see Recording devices..."

I have a USB microphone that's recently been giving some kind of problem with voice sensitivity. It was working fine on my Windows 10 laptop earlier today and I didn't change any settings. I tested it out on a Windows 8.1 laptop and I don't experience any problems. I've uninstalled the driver through Device Manager and reinstalled it but still no luck.

When I go to the Windows Sound Control Panel to see recording devices I see my microphone as "Mic 2". If I plug it into a different USB port it becomes "Mic 3", and another USB port "Mic 4" etc.. But when I unplug it these things go away. My question is how do I see a list of these unplugged input devices and remove them? I'd like to try to get the PC to recognize my mic as if it's the first time I've ever plugging it in. I'm not sure if this will fix my problem but I'd like try. I'm also open to other suggestions.

  3. Recording Devices

    Hi,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.

We regret the inconvenience caused to you.

A Code 10 error is generated in Device Manager in one of the following situations:

    • Device Manager can't start the device.
    • One of the drivers that the device needs does not start.
    • Device Manager has insufficient information to recognize the error that is bubbled up by the device driver.

Let us try the following steps, and check if it helps.

Step 1: Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter.

I suggest you to run hardware and devices troubleshooter and check.

      • Type troubleshooting in the search box on taskbar.
      • Click on Troubleshooting in the search results.
      • Click on Hardware and Sound and select Hardware and Devices and click on
        Next to run the troubleshooter.
    Step 2: Update the driver.

    • Press Windows key + X, and select
      Device Manager
      .
    • In Device Manager, click the Driver tab in the device's
      Properties dialog box.
    • Click Update Driver to start the Hardware Update Wizard.
    • Follow the instructions to update the driver.

    Hope it helps.

  4. Is there way to "Recording" devices that are not plugged in?

Device Manager > Sound > Recording "flickering"

    Hi,

When you said you disabled it, did you actually disable the device by going to
Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound
    > Recording, then right-clicking on the device and clicking on
Disable? Also, have you tried to plug in another recording device to check if it will exhibit the same problem?

In the meantime, we suggest that you run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter to scan your computer, identify the problems, and attempt to fix the issues automatically.

    • Right-click on the Start button, and select Control Panel.
    • Type troubleshooting in the search bar and click on
      Troubleshooting
      .
    • Click on Hardware and Sound > Hardware and Devices.
    • Follow the steps from the wizard to run the troubleshooter.

We'll keep an eye out on your response.
