  1. Is This a Legitimate Tech Support Operation or Was My Husband Scammed

My husband contacted me today while I was out and said his computer had been hacked and hit with spyware. He did not call the number on his computer screen but instead got on his phone and googled what he thought was a Microsoft support phone number 888-387-4005 and that he ultimately got transferred over to someone on a helpline with phone number of 712-587-7575 who "helped" him by taking remote control of his laptop and downloading the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool and running some scan that took hours and charging a one time fee of $23.95.He did all of this before I got home

    :)

Ms tech support is it a scam?

As already mentioned: Yes that's a scam.

All these kind of pop-ups are fake warnings - scams. Never ever call these numbers.

Clear your temporary internet files and reboot. Do not restore the browser session.

After the reboot, the pop-up should be gone.

If not, follow the steps provided here: Remove Tech Support Scam pop-up (Call For Support Scam)
