Is this possible? (Access LAN-connected printer from home wifi)

    Settings and versions:

    • Latest version of windows 10 on both computers.
    • "Network discovery" and "file and printer sharing" turned on in both the PC and Laptop
    • "Share printer" turned on in the USB-connected printer settings

    My specific setup:

    Internet cable from wall-----xfinity router-port 1----eero wifi-----laptop

    xfinity router-port-2----PC (hard-wired)-----USB-connected-printer

    I want to do this:

    • From my Laptop (which is connected to my home wifi) I want to access/use a NON-Wifi-printer which is connected via USB to my "hard-wired-non-wifi-capable" PC.
    • Said another way: My PC is hard-wired (not wifi capable) and has a USB-connected printer which I'd like to access/use from my wifi-connected laptop.

I gather that I need to get my LAN-connected PC onto my wifi network somehow. What I've read online makes me think it's possible, but instructions about "MS Virtual adpater" and other such things don't seem to apply to my version of windows. (Iow, the menus they call for aren't there)

When I try to add the printer to my laptop it doesn't see it. When I try to add it manually by typing in the printer address, it doesn't find it. e.g. [http://computername/printers/printername/.printer] (I changed the bolded words and left the non-bolded as is. Was that correct?)

    Is this doable?

    :)

Laptops cannot access desktops via WIFI

I have 3 desktops (all on Windows 10 1803) connected on my LAN. After following this forum for some times and did all the steps as suggested by forum member, access denied, all my desktops are able to view and access one another. I have a printer connected to PC1, and managed to connect all the other 2 PCs to have the shared printer.

I also have 2 more laptops (both Asus with the same Windows 10 1803) connected via WIFI. Performed all the same steps as per the desktops, but I was not able to access PC1. I was able to view all the 3 desktops from the file explorer, but I just can't access all the desktops. However, I was able to access the Asus laptops from desktop PC1.

Anyone able to assist on this matter? Any assistance is highly appreciated.

sharing a printer through wifi connection

I'm trying to share a printer (canon mp730) through a wifi network. My computer (windows vista) is connected to the printer directly. The other computer is windows xp.

When I'm working on the xp machine and press "print", it opens a dialog box and form there I select "find printer". When I click on that, it shows me the printer connected to the Vista machine select print, I get a warning message saying "you are about to install a printer driver on your machine...blah blah". I click "yes" on that and then get a message saying that the server for the printer does not have the correct printer driver installed. What to do? It seems like I've got the latest driver for the mp730 installed on both machines.
