Windows 10: Is Win 10 Pro hibernation off (disabled...), by default?

SSD Master & slave drives.
Set to Performance, with hibernation/never, and hard drive always on in Advanced.
APC UPS USB plugged in, but software not installed (shows on taskbar, with hibernation/never in settings, Sleep after 5min when on battery only).

Do I need to disable Hibernation, to speed things up, or...?

Computuer restarts immediately when trying to hibernate

My laptop has suddenly started automatically restarting when I try to hibernate. I have tried many solutions I found on the internet and this forum.

• I disabled fast restart
• ran power troubleshooter
• reset the power plan defaults
• updated bios
• tried a repair install
• disabled hybrid sleep in power settings

I have already updated to v 1909. I am running Win 10 Pro.

The fast start disable fixed the auto restart on shutdown but not or hibernate. Sleep works fine. Please advise what other steps to try.

This issue likely occurs if there are some settings on your computer that are affecting the power usage.
It's also possible that hibernation is already turned off when you run the command for the second time that's why you're getting the error. To troubleshoot your hibernation issue, we suggest resetting all default power plans to its default settings.

• Run Command Prompt as an administrator.
• Type powercfg –restoredefaultschemes and press Enter.
• Restart your device to apply the changes.

Afterwards, you can try to disable hibernation again then check if the issue persists.

Did the default Hibernate file size change for Win 10 ?


It is normal. You can adjust the size of the hibernation file in the command prompt.
