Resize the text size of the icons, menus, the title bar

I would agree with that 100%...

There is something called the Feedback Hub where you can make complaints\suggestions concerning Windows 10...

  3. This is regarding the VERSION of the new upcoming Windows OS

I presently have Windows 7 Home Premium. This means I will get Windows 10 home version for free. What would I have to do to upgrade the new Windows 10 OS from the home version and get the Windows 10 Professional OS instead?

    No. See the above statement:
It would be my guess that as manufacturers ramp up to loading their own images to their own devices, there will be glitches along the way that Microsoft may have to fix.

At any rate, whether it's ready or not, we won't get the final release until July 29. No way no how!

    @Wynona

I wasn't asking Is Windows 10 Ready? That is the title of the news article.

I think you need to re-read theverge article. Of course we won't get the consumer release tell July 29 but there is nothing stopping Microsoft from releasing a version to manufacture before that date or even on that date. John (Z) in another post said there might not be a RTM at all.

StarFerret's gonna get fat licking the egg offa my face! *Smile That is so funny, because I wondered why you'd even ask such a question!

And I was wondering if you'd actually read the article you posted. <I'm still laughing at myself!>

I did read the article. And if it's correct (who knows), there will be an RTM (and someone else will win $1000,00!). However, as I said, there may be glitches that will have to be fixed by Microsoft, which is probably the reason it'll RTM toward the end of June. I don't think the OEMs will be allowed to sell computers with Windows 10 before July 29.

What I'm wondering about is the logistics of upgrading a few gazillion computers to Windows 10 on July 29. That'll take every server Microsoft can scrounge up from here to Timbuktu!

I'm planning to continue as an Insider as well as upgrade at least two of my computers from Windows 8.1.

You mean now? Of course Windows isn't ready now *Wink

Yeah, I know... it's not your question, it's the title of the article you linked.

Will it be ready on 29 July ... of course it will be ready on 29 July. That's the release date - it is set in stone.

Will it be an OS I want to use on a daily basis? Ahaaaa, there's a question.
I was concerned by some of the conscious decisions made in implementing the design. I disagreed with many of those decisions. I fed MS and 10.0.130 seems to be getting closer to what I would accept.

I'll defer judgement on the final product until it is available.

    other ramblings:
The Win10 app does a few things,
it's a 'upgrade assistant' that won't notify you if the machine does not meet the requirements
    it's a pre-register app
it's a pre loader app - Win10 bits that are deemed to be finished will be staged on your Win7 or Win8.1 machine through Windows update. That way when Win10 goes live, the upgrade process won't be a flood the Internet or crash MS servers.
I thought there was one more thing it did ... oh well, can't recall it now.

As far as the Insider Program ... I will not continue with it. The terms open up my machine too much - so it's back to running Windows (if I decide Win10 is for me) as a private enterprise.

The other thing is MS still owes me for the last 8 months. What a deal they have ... 2,000,000 unpaid Quality Assurance testers.
I applaud that accomplishment, I just won't continue providing a service to MS without compensation. *Wink

    side note:
RTM is an engineering term indicating that department is done - the 'gold master' is available to cut media.
Release to Manufacturing ..aka.. Release to Marketing

GA is a Sales/Marketing term indicating that everything other than development (documentation, training, packaging, shiny brochures, etc) is done

There is no code difference between RTM and GA and many companies do not distinguish the two - there is only RTM or only GA.

It'll be ready for home use by July 29th I'm sure, but enterprise users will probably wanna stay on Win7 until 10.1 is deployed.

The only people that'll want 10 at release is gamers. While it's nice to have a Start Menu again, MS is splitting system settings between the Control Panel and the Settings App, which screams "Desktop/mobile hybrid". And I don't approve.

MS should give consumers options - by having all system settings in both apps, so desktop users can use the Control Panel and touch users use the Settings app.

  10. Of course it will be ready on release day 29th July 2015. You'll download the 3.4gb ISO file and install where it will connect as soon as it can to windows updates to download a 1.5Gb quick fix update for a reboot and then download of an emergency update of 500mb followed by a reboot a check for more updates top find another 250Mb file to fix unspecified issues. Then you will have upgraded to Windows 10. Something about it will not work with your work flow, your printer, scanner or the favorite game. You go to the support website and download a 500mb patch for the game, a 500mb printer scanner fax driver and also some nice themes and then realise NVidia has a driver update. By now with the load on the internet everyone's ISP is throttling them. You then figure out you have no sound and creative labs will not support your soundcard for another six months. Yeah it'll work just fine. /SARCASM BUT SOME OF THIS IS TRUE.

Sounds like you know exactly what you're talking about, Indianatone, and it looks like this isn't your first rodeo. *Smile

If I'm allowed, I'll just keep on using the Preview until the servers aren't being hammered so badly. Ain't no way I'm going to fire up Windows 8.1 for at least a couple of weeks!

Dude, you're still having bad dreams from Vista *Wink but you can bet there will be "gotchas". In particular security software is going to be playing catchup for a while. I won't be surprised if most of it doesn't work initially.

If you "reserve" Windows 10, prior to July 29 MS will begin loading a version of Windows 10 onto your PC. Then it will continue to update that version until it is ready and then will notify you on July 29 that you have the latest version and you can update. That way there is no mad dash on July 29 to start a download. As for AV programs, I am testing a Beta of Norton Security v22.5 for W10 compatibility and Norton has said that NIS v21 will be updated for Windows 10 in a few weeks.

I think when the final release comes out I'll drop out of the preview program and go with the main. While it's been fun being in the TP at this point I want to just live with Win10.
