    Been wondering how easy it is to get back into preview once running the main build

    Hoping they are going to do it similar to how it works on the phone, run the insider app and say enrol me, then you get updates quicker, not having to do any re installs unless you want to (got win phone 8.1 about 6 months before general release and had no issues with it)

    Agreed on July 29 -- Marketing has spoken; problems will be fixed with ongoing work by the devs.

    I disagree that only gamers will want Windows 10. I'm not a gamer, except for playing Solitaire at the end of the day in order to unwind. I'm sure that, among the millions of Windows 10 Insiders, I won't be the only non-game player who'll upgrade.

    I'm ambivalent on whether the Control Panel should stay or go . . . At first, Settings was eating my lunch and I couldn't find anything, but as time goes on and I go in there first, I find myself adapting. As far as "ease of use" Settings is far more convenient than the Control Panel.

    Printers will also become victims of Windows 10. I need to keep at least one system running Windows 8.1 because HP is notorious for not building new drivers for existing equipment. I'm still stinging from the HP Color Laser Printer they wouldn't give drivers for when Windows 7 came out!

    Right now, I have an HP Wide Bed printer that's essentially useless! I'm hoping against hope that there'll be drivers for it because that thing cost a few extra bucks!

    Hi there

    Remember the current builds don't expire until OCTOBER so you've got plenty of time to decide how you want to run W10 even AFTER Jul 29. You don't have to update before then anyway -- if you've already registered for an update simply IMAGE your W7 / W8.1 systems and run W10 preview / these builds until you are ready for "The real thing". The update will work for ONE YEAR after jul 29 in any case provided you've registered - so simply restore W7 / W8.1 image when ready and go for it.

    I've got on the whole a reasonably working build (100130) so I'll wait until the initial REAL releases of W10 have been rolled out and see what happens --I'm sure some errors will appear which I'll let the early adopters fix.

    Cheers

    I don't think there'll be any reinstalls, Paul. I'm planning to run both the Preview/Insider Program and regular released Windows 10. Maybe as a dual boot system? I haven't worked out the logistics yet; which computer will do what . . .

    Why would you want to run the preview build once the final is out?

    Wynona do you mean dual booting two Windows 10's, one with current build, and the other staying in the insider program to get the newest, although not stable bleeding edge stuff?

  9. Wynona clearly stated the answers to those questions:

    Probably just having a debate with Star Ferret on the methodology.

    Win10 will be in Current Build status and perpetual Insider preview status, the next two are known:
    Redstone Q1 2016 and Restone Q3 2016

    Anyway .... testers like to test *Wink

    Because I like learning new stuff . . . and I like being on the bleeding edge.

    And, I guess you could say I'm addicted to beta testing. *Smile

    Thanks Bill . . . Yep, I'm debating with StarFerret on how to do this. She's wanting to take the 15.6" laptop since it's more her size. *Smile

    @Wynona

    If you have windows updated drivers enabled on windows 7 & windows 10 you should be able to download a HP xxxxx (LiDiL) version via Windows update. When I first got the computer the LiDil didn't work, it took awhile for Microsoft to get that HP driver updated.

    As far as the dual booting, running two windows 10 might conflict with each other especially if 10 is not a clean install. I had an issue that I couldn't run windows 7 even on another partition when I upgraded windows 7 to windows 10 preview. I was able triple boot with windows 7, windows 10 preview and Linux. The windows 10 preview had to be a clean install to work that way.

    All,

    Does any know the answer to this?

    If I stay with the new preview program after windows release does that mean I don't have to give up my windows 7 licensing?

    I do something like that with Ubuntu. I use the LTS as the "main" stable, and for each new version I jump in before there's even an alpha, after the latest version is finished using sudo do-release-upgrade -d.

    I don't understand (LIDil). I've searched HP's site for drivers to the printer, but so far, haven't found any that work. It's an HP Officejet 7610. If you can point me toward drivers, I'd appreciate it, Groze.

    First, once you upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10 Preview, of course you could no longer boot Windows 7. In essence, you gave up your license to Win 7. Now, if you have three partitions, with Windows 7 on one, Windows 10 on one and Linux on the third, you haven't given up your license to Windows 10. *Smile

    <Snip>

    You do not have to give up your Windows 7 license if you don't upgrade it to Windows 10. It's as simple as that! *Smile Best of both worlds!
