Is Windows Edition, e.g. Pro, tied to User Account or Machine

I got some very helpful tips from this site on how to prepare the sale of my PC to someone. I particularly like the one that will create an OOTB experience for the new owner.

This is probably a 2 part question, so where I'm slightly confused is when the new owner signs in for the first time, will the machine retain the Pro edition that I've loaded it with or will the edition default to their MS login account?

Which leads me to the question on activation; will activation complete properly once they sign on? Is the activation still based on the machine? I sure don't want them to get home and find out that the machine didn't activate properly.

I just don't want to run into problems after the sale, so maybe these things will all work themselves out and I'm just paranoid. *Biggrin

    Thanks,
    Greg

    :)

Strange Windows 10 User Account issue.

Unfortunately I had done those steps numerous reboots, it just, reappears for no good reason. The base account isn't even a Microsoft account, it's a local account.

I haven't quite tried the built in administrator account on W10, but so far in my experience on my own computer, the built in account seemed to have absolutely no more control than I did on my own.

It's just strange, I go in, it warns me twice about deleting the account, then it's gone. Reboot, and it's back?

EDIT: Just to specify, both command line and Netplwiz both say only HIS account exists on the computer, it doesn't list this rogue account. This is what I meant in my first post about the fact that even Windows doesn't seem to believe it exists, HALF the time. *Frown Is Windows Edition, e.g. Pro, tied to User Account or Machine :(

Windows 10 Home edition - add user account

I'm trying to add a user account to a PC with Win10 Home edition, preferably a local account which isn't tied to a Microsoft account.

At the moment, the PC has an administrator account, which I'm logged into, and an account linked to my Hotmail account. So

    1. I go to Control Panel, User Accounts, Manage Accounts

    2. I click the link "Add a new user in PC settings"

3 Step 2 takes me to a Settings panel headed "Home" In the list of Accounts options on the left there is an entry "Other people". I mention that because google results for this problem say it should say "Family & other people" but it doesn't

4 I click the "Add someone else to this PC" icon on the RHS of the panel

5 This pops up lusrmgr.msc which has a red cross in its centre panel and the message "This snapin cannot be used with this edition ... use the User Accounts tool in the Control Panel". But that of course is EXACTLY what I was trying to to in step 1.

So how on Earth DO I add another account to the PC?
