Windows 10: Is Windows Lying to my users? - Disable Windows Hello setup prompt

Every time our users log into their W11 Pro system they are prompted to configure Windows Hello saying "Your Organization requires you to configure login with face recognition, fingerprint or PIN" .I have two problems with this:1. We have disabled Entra security defaults2. In per-user config we have disabled MFA for all usersSo from the articles I've found, that's what should disable MFA for our Org - but I must be missing something... None of my users want to configure face/fingerprint, and a couple want to configure a numeric PIN like I have using my local administrator account.But when yo

Unable to setup Windows Hello, error: incorrect pin

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

May I know the complete error code or error message that you are receiving when you try to setup Windows Hello?

Do you have any other user account on the computer?

If yes, does Windows Hello work on that account?

If Windows Hello is not setup on other account, please setup it up and check if it works so that we can narrow down the issue for you.

I suggest to remove the pin and setup a new pin on the child account and check if it works with Windows Hello.

Please follow the steps below to remove and re-add the PIN:

• Press Windows logo key + I to open Settings.
  
• Select Accounts.
  
• Click on Sign-in options.
  
• Under PIN, remove the pin. There will be prompt to enter password, enter the password and removed the PIN.
  
• After the pin is removed, please click on
  Add to setup pin for the account.
  
• After setting up a new PIN, try to set up Windows Hello.

Disable Windows Hello Prompt entirely on logon screen

We sincerely apologize for giving you an unpleasant experience during the use of Windows.

For your current problem, I would like to suggest that you try the following to test if it works.

Method 1: Using Group policy settings.

If you are on Windows 10 Pro edition, you can change the group policy settings to disable PIN sign-in option for all users.

• Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows key and the R key together.
  
• Type GPEDIT.MSC and hit the Enter key.
  
• Go to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Logon.
  
• On the right side, double click on Turn on PIN sign-in and select Disabled.
  
• Similarly disable the other Windows Hello options if any.
  
• Exit the Group policy editor and reboot the computer.
  

Method 2: Disabling Windows Hello in Registry.

If setting Group policy doesn’t work, you may disable the sign in options which should disable Windows Hello options in all user accounts.

• Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows key and the R key together.
  
• Type Regedit and hit the Enter key.
  
• When the Registry Editor opens, navigate to the following location:
  
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PolicyManager\default\Settings\AllowSignInOptions.
  
• In the right pane, double click on the DWORD entry named value set it to 0.
  

The above method will disable Windows Hello for all user accounts. If you want to re-enable it, change the DWORD entry Value back to 1.
