    Windows Defender Offline Scan does not work

    With both the previous Fall Creator's Upgrade and now new Spring Creator's Upgrade Windows Defender Offline Scan works until a new cumulative update comes out. After the first cumulative update is installed, whenever I run a new scan, Offline Scan stops at the point where it is suppose to go into a reboot and returns to the main menu. Not sure why the cumulative updates seem to break Offline Scan, but would appreciate any help with this issue.

    Windows Defender offline scan

    If you read this before edit...disregard. I thought that the OEM partition created by Windows update install had something to do with Offline scan. I was able to get it to run twice...but a third time later in the day failed. I have the registry entry listed above by the way and it still doesn't work.

    Defender Periodic Scanning or Offline Scanning?

    That link does suggest it's useful to use Defender offline scanning in addition to periodic scanning and a third party real time anti virus (e.g. Kaspersky).
