Is 'Windows Phone' too insular of a brand name?

If the rumors are correct that MS are thinking of merging WinRT and WindowsPhone OS's; and possibly forking that away from the more classicly-minded Desktop PC OS for Windows 9; shouldn't they reuse the Windows Mobile brand for their phone/tablet OS? WP (obviously) seems limited to just phones at the moment.

    :)

NOKIA IS A BOGUS BRAND OF MOBILE

Dude, Apple controls every single device thats of apple, and their schizophrenic. Nokia's not like that, they are liberal, bigger companies need to, they cant just sue every single website or stuff.

Nokia's s60 is like windows. If they start making every single applications like call blocker or anti virus, then the 3rd party would definitely sue them for 'monopolizing' and not being competitive and stuff.

If you think Nokia's bogus, head over to iphone, the only COMPLETE phone out there Is 'Windows Phone' too insular of a brand name? :p.

I'm not a web site spammer if you took a look at the sites, i moderate at them on a daily basis and those sites help thousands of people on a daily basis, oh and you forgot the other sites too, n96users and Nokiausers, stick that in your web police pipe and
    smoke it!

Well, WP as it is cannot pass as an OS. It is very limited in function and super tightly controlled. There is really little you can do with it from an OS point of view. Plus there are very few useful apps - a couple are really good but for a general use OS like e.g. Android, it has a long way to go.

Even the traditional Office app is retarded. It cannot correctly display e.g. PowerPoint files with sound or narration. Sound seems to optional, LOL. And if you happen to have your files on the MicroSD card, there is no way to access them.

There is also no File Explorer and the apps in the apps store cannot open the folders. So you can look at folders for documents or videos but cannot get to the files. Pictures and music is a bit better, but still no access from the folders - just a big messy sequence.

If you have a WP device, use it as a phone and a toy. More is not in the cards - oh yes, navigation works very well. f

Oh I know WP's OS at the moment is severely limited (weather by MS or other companies screwing it over e.g. Google with a real YouTube app). In fact I was 'all in' on buying a Nokia Lumia a year or two ago but I didn't like how WP looked/worked so I didn't get any smartphone.

But I specifically meant in terms of branding. If WinRT and WP do get merged into one OS for phones/tablets (and Desktop OS is the same just with defaults toggled for Desktop-type stuff), should they replace WinRT and WP branding with Windows Mobile?

On the one hand Windows Mobile might still be poisonous from it's time as the bottom feeder of the market, but it's not like Windows Phone has really fared much better in that regard when it comes to first world countries. WindowsRT is just a horrible brand name which creates more confusion than it's worth (I always thought 'Windows On Arm' was much better as the distinction is clear between 'Windows' and 'Windows On Arm'). If the Windows Mobile brand could be resurrected successfully I feel as though it would be the more/most apt name for an OS which appears on both phones and tablets.

If they would be the same thing, that would male sense. But my point was that the current W8P is in no way a suitable OS for a tablet.

And if they were merged, they should be able to run on both ARM and x86. There are a lot of devices out that use x86 now after the introduction of the new Atom quad core that runs on 2 Watts.
