Windows 10: ISO of Windows 10 v1607 won't start on UEFI

Hi all,

I downloaded a genuine ISO from the Microsoft site and I didn't use the CREATION TOOL but I just downloaded the ISO.

My laptop is UEFI and SECURE BOOT enabled.

I ran RUFUS and I put the ISO to the USB key MBR table and UEFI type.

The laptop simply don't "see" the USB ISO of Windows 10 until I don't disable SECURE BOOT and ENABLE the LEGACY MODE.

How I can create an BOOTABLE ISO of Windows 10 that supports UEFI and SECURE BOOT without using the creation tool with Rufus? Or it is impossible?

You should be able to reinstall Windows 10 v1607 and it will automatically activate the digital entitlement. I do it a couple times a week. You can get a fresh copy of Windows 10 v1607 with the

media creation tool. I found the USB creator easier, with a pretty fast install. Settings and updating is a little time suck.

The digital entitlement key is stored in the bios uefi firmware of the motherboard.

Mount the ISO
copy the contents of the mounted ISO to the USB thumbdrive
Mark the USB thumbdrive ACTIVE in Disk management

The key for UEFI is FAT32 formatted media

 

FYI.........To Mount an ISO in Windows 10 just right click it and Choose Open With > File Explorer....

and it will look like a DVD Player in File Explorer.

RC the DVD Player and Eject it like a DVD to Unmount the ISO again.


( it's also possible to double click an ISO to mount it but if you have a Program like Nero installed it would Start instead , which is why I use the RC method.)

 

UEFI mode do not use boot sectors on the hard drive and the USB flash drive, and do not require active partition to be set.

How to create UEFI mode compatible Windows 10 USB flash drive.

Format your USB flash drive in File Explorer. Note: You need to choose FAT32 file system.

When formatting is complete.
- Mount the Windows 10 ISO image file by right-clicking the ISO image file and choosing Mount. If you don’t see Mount command from the context menu, go to Open with > Windows Explorer instead.
- Select everything in the mounted ISO image file, and copy them into the USB flash drive you prepared earlier.
