Hello,I am trying to use a virtual camera with Windows Media Foundation API on Windows 11. The camera is correctly detected by MFEnumDeviceSources, but when I try to call ActivateObjectIID_IMFMediaSource, … on virtual camera, I get the following error:Failed to activate device Virtual Webcam, error: -2147024809 0x80070057 - Invalid parameter.The camera was working fine until the update two months ago.Problem Details:Virtual camera is correctly detected by MFEnumDeviceSources and returns a valid symbolic link.ActivateObject works on o

Media Foundation does not recognize virtual cams

Hi,

I am using Media Foundation to enumerate and capture from camera devices. It recognizes the USB camera connected to laptop but does not recognize few of the virtual cam software like Chroma Cam etc. Same behavior is seen on the application that builds out
of Microsoft's sample code of media foundation.

This however works fine on a direct show based app.

Is it not supported in media foundation ? If yes, then when is this support expected to come ?

Was the Media Foundation API really ever considered a commercial success or commercial failure?

With the rise of HTML5 killing off every other media plugin for media playback (including Windows Media Player's plugin) was the Media Foundation API really considered a commercial success or commercial failure?

Only 2 third party programs outside of Microsoft products have ever gotten a license for the Media Foundation API: that is Goldwave & Mozilla Firefox (Version 24 & later for WIndows 7 & later only).

I really want to know if any other programs were planned to use the API or planned to migrate from DirectShow to Media Foundation before those plans were cancelled.
