    Issue Adding External speakers to Dell Inspiration Laptop


    Bought AMAZONbasics external speakers Set up appeared very easy plug in USB; plug in 3.5 mm audio cable in Dell. I'm not computer savvy read senior but that understood, followed directions, light came on the speakers as the quick start said they would but I don't have any sound from any speakers.....even when I unplug the new external, no laptop speakers are working.

    Hi MaryKukainis,

    Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. I'm an Independent Advisor and consumer of Microsoft products just like you. Let me help you with your concern.

    1. Make sure that your speaker volume isn’t muted or turned down too low.

    2. You have to set your speakers as default sound output

    -Right-click the speaker icon at the bottom right corner of the desktop and click on "Open sound settings".

    -Change the output device

    or

    -Right-click the speaker icon at the bottom right corner of the desktop and click on "Open Volume Mixer".

    -On the device group, change the output device.

    Adding external speakers

    Depending on the built in sound device on the MB. Some support 2.1/5.1/7.1 and also optical audio out. Just plug in the cable that comes with the speaker to it then switch the sound output for the speaker.
    1. Sound input to speakers
    2. Some high end speakers support digital sound then you would use an optical cable.
    3. Sound input to TV using HDMI cable
