Windows 10: Issue installing driver for older Dell monitor 2001fp

O.K. so this 2100fp monitor use to show this before with a driver or without ? Show me where you downloaded it or look back to see what OS it was for. Dell does not make it's own Graphics cards, my mistake at least not this one or many i saw .

 

I am looking at the readme file right now and it says that the drivers are for XP or 2000! I wonder if there even is win 10 driver for this old girl.

 

Yep. This is the monitor, i still have a hard time finding it on Dell, you must of entered a service tag or i am missing a digit from the model number. Back from Windows XP days http://www.cnet.com/products/dell-ul...-2001fp/specs/

Now if it does the same thing hooked up alone, can be the monitor itself. Really do not need a driver these days for monitors they are plug n play (PnP).

 

That is indeed the model. The funny part is I thought this monitor was nowhere near this old. This monitor was previously owned by my neighbor who purchased it used from Dell about five years ago. He bought a new Dell Laptop about six months ago and gave the monitor to me. I figured I would use when I bought my next computer (which I obviously have).

I am absolutely amazed that Dell would re-sell such an old monitor. I used this monitor at his house many times and I know he use to fuss about the brightness, (he is in his late seventies) he would adjust it every morning and again in the late afternoon when the sun left his spare room. This is why I believe I needed the driver for it. But it looks now like getting a win 10 driver for it may be fools errand.

 

I never knew they sold used products, it probably was recertified or refurbished. Difference of course in different lighting and being and older LCD TFT monitor. I felt there might be an issue with this monitor and even more so by it's age . If you can not install the driver as Alpha mentioned and it does not work as a Plug N Play as it should no matter what the age.Not that much mention of a driver issue in that link i sent from a Dell forum. I do not think it is a driver issue.

 

I agree with you. I am, however, curious as to what would happen if I ran it with VGA. My 745 does have a VGA port, and I imagine somewhere around here I might be able to find an old VGA cable. I know that when Kent owned it he used VGA cable, it would be crazy if that solved the problem eh.

 

Something you mentioned first i think about clarity of the picture might be due to a cable or connection. When you troubleshoot you need to try everything you can to determine an issue, changing the cable, different cables on a different port on the card, drivers of the card, trying the monitor on a another PC.

 

I just read this Graphics card is made by NVIDIA specifically for Dell Computers. I missed the part before were you said the monitor driver was updated for Windows 7, which might be o.k. for Windows 10, but i am not sure and again can not see the driver messing with a piece of hardware's settings as those settings should come on screen even with or without a driver. Again it can just be a monitor issue as seen in that Dell Support forum.

 

If you are talking about the built in menu buttons on the monitor, as far as I know, no drivers are needed to use those. Those functions are built into the monitor. I have never had to install any utilities to adjust the brightness and contrast on any monitor I own when using the buttons on the monitor itself. That's all done via the hardware/firmware in the monitor.

The "driver" isn't really a driver in the conventional sense. Not the ones I've seen. It's just an .inf file that specifies the modes that monitor supports. Most of the time you can't install them like a normal driver either. You do it through Device Manager. Unless it's a USB monitor, etc. Those do require special drivers to work through USB.

 

Believe that is what it has been, Alphanumeric. I told the thread starter the driver would not control that and came across a similar issue from Dell on that model with Brightness and Contrast having issues, this monitor is from 2003. Some monitor drivers have color profiles to i believe. My ASUS monitor has no drivers just a software.

 

Yeah, I think the more expensive/high quality monitors will have color profiles on the disk that comes with them. You want stuff like that if you work with Photoshop etc. All that was on the disk that came with my monitors was the owners manual/setup instructions, etc.

 

All i received was box, styrofoam and cables.
