  1. Issue opening Photos app on standard user accounts

We just recently found that Windows Photos will not open for standard users on our domain-joined machines. We've checked the log files in event viewer and several other spots, and cannot identify what the issue is. We've tried resetting and reinstalling the app but that didn't work. It's possible a gpo is causing the issue, but we've also found that accounts with domain administrator permissions open the program fine, while standard users on the same machines cannot. You also cannot run the program as an admin inside the standard user's account by elevating permissions.Anyone facing a simi

  2. calendar & mail work in administrator account but not on standard user one

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

This issue occurs if the standard user account is corrupted.

    1) Are you able to access and use other apps in the standard user account?

I suggest you to remove the standard user account and then try to create a new standard user account and check if it helps.

To remove follow the below steps.

    1) Open Settings and click on Accounts.

    2) Next select Family and other users.

    3) Click on the standard user account and click on Remove.

To add user account follow the below steps.

    1) Open Settings and click on Accounts.

    2) Next select Family and other users.

    3) Click on Add other sure to this PC and then follow the on screen instructions to create the New standard User Account.

If the issue still persists, I suggest you to run the Microsoft Account troubleshooter and check if it helps.

Refer to the following link to run the troubleshooter:

Hope it helps. Let us know the status of the issue.

    Thanks.

  3. Account user mode changing issues.(Administrator/ standard)

    Hi,

The User Account Control is a type of security that restricts unauthorized installation of apps and settings modification. You will normally encounter this notification if you are using a standard account. Since this is the issue that you have encountered
on your PC, we would like to ask for additional information to help us provide you the appropriate solution. Please answer the following:

    • What command did you run when you changed the administrator account to standard?
    • Do you still have another administrator account that you can log into?
    • What build and version of Windows 10 are you using?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

We look forward to your response.

  4. Issue opening Photos app on standard user accounts

    Open with another app 'photos'

Hi, yeah mine is set as defaut for the native photos app and it all opens as it should. Not sure how long it's been there.

My suspicion is it's legacy of past problems with the native photos app updating. I have had the app stop working on other user accounts following updates to the app. I had to create new user accounts to get the app working for them again. When things went wrong the photos app was acting like it wasn't installed on their accounts, so I went in and installed it through the store for them but nothing doing, it just failed to launch so I ended up creating the new accounts whereupon it was fine.

It's not doing any harm but I would like to see if it can be removed from the list. It doesn't appear on the traditional open with list in explorer when you right click and select open with in the context menu. It only appears in the new Windows GUI, so when someone installs a new app that can handle jpg or bmp file the next time you open a picture it gives you a choice to keep using the current app. Then it also offers up alternatives due to the new software/app being installed and that's when I see it
