Windows 10: Issue Resolved: How to show thumbnail pictures instead of icon in Windows 10

2 days ago I was having this issue. Went to offload some photos & my thumbnails were showing a 'Mountain icon' associated w/ Photos. I looked to change my Default Programs look fine, did not recall when this was working last - but recently. Found an article on U-tube and this one that discussed turning off a switch for thumbnails - this had already been done. Shortly after - I decided to look at recent updates & decided to back-out the most recent one. Security Update for Microsoft Windows KB5044273, and this resolved my problem. My thumbnails started appearing as I scrolled

Picture ICONS instead of thumbnail pics

Suddenly all of my picture thumbnails are ICONS, instead of thumbnail pics. I have gone through the steps of Unchecking a box that says "always show ICONS instead of thumbnails" and that did NOT help.

I don't like Microsoft Edge or the Cloud, I think those are the culprits that keep doing this to my thumbnails.

Hello after searching for this answer through numerous posts from years back I finally figured out the solution myself. Here it is:

How to display you picture thumbnails instead of generic icon picture in Windows 10 OS:

1. Open File Explorer (Manila folder icon at bottom on task bar)

2. At the Top Click on 'View"

3. Select Large Icons (so you can see them easier)

4. Click on Pictures from the file path on the left

5. Press Ctrl 'A' to select All

6. At the top Right click the drop down arrow under 'Options' then select "Change folder and search options"

7. Under folder options click the 'View' tab

8. (Be certain that all of your files are Still Highlighted, if not cancel out of the folder options and

Repeat steps 4 - 7

9. Next, under "Advanced Settings" DE-Select the first entry for "Always show icons, never thumbnails"

10. Click "Apply" then OK.
