Issue with Music lowering while other sound is present while at 100%

    Hi,

Having a very specific and odd issue I have never ran across before on windows.

Whenever I am playing music, either on Spotify, Soundcloud, or VLC player and the volume within the player is set to 100%, as soon as another sound happens (such as someone stalking in discord, or a game playing sound, or even just a windows notification) the volume of the sound will manually lower itself for a second or two then pop back up to normal.

It doesn't seem to happen in games, if the game is full blast and another sound happens, the game doesn't lower, so it seems to have something to do with music or media in general.

Have try changing the sound communications to none (so it wont drop sound down automatically), but no avail.

Haven also turned off all sound enchantments, just to make sure there is no weird normalizing going on.

Have also found a workaround, if I lower the sound volume of spotify/soundcloud/VLC player to about 75%, it stops happening.

Just wondering if anyone has ran into this issue before, almost seems like I am hitting some sort of sound cap.

    Change Sounds

Step 1 - Download the sounds you wish to hear to a folder on your hard drive. I suggest creating a sub-folder under music.

Step 2- Right-click on the speaker icon in the lower right corner of your screen and choose Sounds.

Step 3- Select a Program Event for which you wish to assign a sound.

Step 4 - Use the Browse button to browse to the folder you created.

Step 5 - Choose a sound for the Program Event.

    Good surround sound headset

I know you say you're not that guy, but stepping into the $250+ range really brings a change in build quality that might have you never having to buy another set. Otherwise, getting 6 speakers with decent sound in a headset is hard, and that's what you are asking for, and I have no suggestions, but just a bump up the list. *Stick Out Tongue Issue with Music lowering while other sound is present while at 100% :p

Issue with Music lowering while other sound is present while at 100%

System Sounds / other apps automatically lowering my music volume

Basically when I listen to music through foobar2000, winamp, any audio player, windows sort of regulates my volume if any other program makes a sound. System sound rings? Music volume lowers. Watching a video on youtube or any other service, music volume lowers, playing a game? Music lowers.

This problem has persisted through 2 entirely new computers, the only thing remaining consistent is my AV receiver. 2 different brand video cards as well (monitor is hooked into receiver hdmi out, and then video card goes into receiver hdmi input) so both AMD and Nvidia have done this to me so far. I don't recalled if this was an issue before the receiver, it's been way too long.

It was also like this in W7 and now W10.

I find it weird that this isn't a problem when I use headphones. Only my receiver. I've never had this happen with any other component though (blu ray player, ps4, xbox1 , 360, etc). I've also listened to music on those devices and played a game or w/e and it doesn't happen.

It really seems like a windows issue or driver problem, I don't understand how it can't be fixed.

Usually these are the go to things -

The BenQ is the monitor connecting to the receiver, other is my headset.
So I figured I'd ask for help here, there's entire articles dedicated to selecting "Do Nothing" in the Sound Communications tab to stop this problem. Getting tired of reading them.

    Thanks!
