Alright, this might be a bit of a long post, but I am not really sure what the best course of action is here.

I bought a Dell XPS 15 in the summer of 2020 and it has been working great. A few months ago I upgraded the storage from 256Gb to 1Tb. About a month after that I started having issues where the computer would turn on when the lid was down and try to start updating. I would wake up and the computer would be really hot and the fans on high. It would always say that the update failed. I started leaving my computer open at night which was fine but for about a week every time I shut down or restarted the laptop it would attempt these updates. It would also ask for my bitLocker code every time it restarted. After about a week of this, it seemed to fix itself and I think it installed the update, although it would still ask for the bitLocker code sometimes.

Now to the present, I was using my computer today and it was working fine, but there seemed to be an audio distortion glitch and so I checked if the drivers were up to date and restarted my computer. When restarted, it asked for the bitLocker code and when I entered it, it went into an automatic repair process which promptly failed. This would then restart and take me back to the bitLocker prompt and the process would repeat. I tried most of the various tools that were available during this loop but none of them worked. I finally resorted to doing the complete reset. I have a hard drive mirror made with Macrium Reflect on an external hard drive from yesterday that I would be fine restoring to. When I did the complete reset, the computer shut down and would only come online for a few seconds where the Dell logo would display and the fans would turn on, but the computer would then shut down.

I realize that there might have been an easier way to fix this earlier in the process, but this is where I am now and any help would be appreciated, thank you.

If there is another subreddit or website I should post this on, please tell me.

    Hard drive auto repair loop

I have been using Windows 10 on my main computer for a while now and one day i decided i wanted to some routine maintenance on my computer using AVG Tuneup since they sent out a free trial to be used again.

Got to the defragmentation part. all i had to do was restart the computer and avg would schedule it. NOTHING IS WRONG.... with the hard drive... just a little check up.... now that i have done the schedule the computer has locked itself in a loop saying
"preparing automatic repair" and then get stuck on some program that looks like a command prompt called winpeshl.exe and i cant touch it.then "repairing disk errors, this may take over an hour to complete". then it restarts the computer after it thinks its
"done" and rinse and repeats that hole process over again.

i have tried loading the reinstallation media but it responds 2 ways.

    1. it will load up the repair schedule first and i never see the usb

    2. i try changing the boot order so the usb loads first... but that means the hard drive never loads and "locks"

Again. there is NOTHING wrong with this hard drive. but i'm stuck on a scheduled repair loop.

i really dont want to have to get another hard drive over THIS.
