  1. Issue with sound driver even after reinstalling Windows

    Hello everybody.

For the last couple of months I have a issue with my sound driver. After turning on my pc when I plug in my headphones my pc doesn't register them and it keeps playing the sound trough the speakers. I have to go into drive manager and manually reinstall realtek audio driver then it starts working. Problem is I have to do this every time I turn on the pc. I also have Linux on the same pc and sounds works fine there.

I reinstalled Windows from my settings but it didn't help. Do you think reinstalling it using USB could make a difference ?

  2. Sound doesn't work - but driver won't reinstall

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern, I would suggest you to go to the device manager and check if the sound drivers are installed. If installed please update the drivers and check.

    Step 1:

    • Press Windows key + X.

    • Click on Device Manager, expand “sound, video and game controllers”
and check if any sound drivers are installed.

    • If yes, right click on the driver and hit update.
Or else go the manufacturer website and install the latest driver.

Step 2: Also run hardware troubleshooter and check if it helps.

    • Type Troubleshooting in the search box and hit enter.

    • Click on Troubleshooting tab.

    • Click on view all option on the upper left corner.

    • Select the Hardware and Device options from the list.
    Hope it helps.

  3. Sound Issues

    Hi Junior,

The change on the sound quality of your device after the recent update can be related to an incompatible driver. As an initial step to resolve your concern, we suggest that you update your driver by following these steps:

    • Type Device Manager in the search box.
    • Press Enter.
    • Click the drop-down arrow for Sound, video and game controllers to view the driver.
    • Right-click the installed sound driver and select Properties.
    • Click the Driver tab.
    • Select Update Driver to update your sound driver.
    • If the driver is updated, you can reinstall the existing driver by repeating steps
      1 to 5.
    • This time, select Uninstall.
    • After uninstalling the driver, restart your device to automatically reinstall the driver.

Let us know should you need further assistance.
